I used one of these at work running a spreadsheet, I believe Lotus 123.

You may have been running "SuperCalc." the original spreadsheet.

That's a great idea - put up a space where the various musicians of PatNet can upload tracks.

Yeah..put up a space where the various musicians of PatNet can upload their "solid bronze" tracks. I know a guy who lives in upstate NY who i met in mexico...he likes to post his songs on youtube.

Argh, what stopped me from getting the good buttery popcorn in the movies and having to eat the tasteless airpopped shit with no salt or butter.

I eventually just opened my jacket and dumped it as soon as somebody's parents were out of eyesight

Back, spawn of Satan!

Look at the top of the air popper. That top has a removable metal tray that you put butter in to melt as the popcorn pops. Pour the melted butter on, then salt it. I remember watching the popcorn pile shrink at the point where the butter was poured in.

This didn't happen, sadly. Or it happened with I Can Definitely Believe It's Not Butter Margarine, popular at the time.

Salt was also not well regarded. Sigh.

I do remember Jiffy Pop being pretty good and shaking it the 'pan' back and forth.

Jesus Christ. This one rings true to me and I'm younger than most here. I had to teach my former boss how to drive manual on my car and he was 49 at the time. About 56 probably now. I've never been more embarrassed for an adult older than me in my life. When he asked I about shit my pants. He bought a manual Mini Cooper. Fucking idiot.

My first car that wasn't a hand me down was manual. My wife's first car was manual in high school so I learned on that. No one helped me. She just told me to drive it. I'm like Ok. No clue what I was doing. 210k on that car. Had work done on it, mechanic asked when did I have the clutch replaced... never. Mic drop moment. I'm not really a car guy either. I think drumming had a bit to do with it with double kick and hi hat footwork on 3 peddles. Makes you a better driver I think with manual. Sucks in traffic.

I learned to drive stick in a Subaru BRAT. Goddamn - it had a school bus-type shifter on the floor (no center column) - 1st gear and reverse were about a foot apart. It felt more like rowing than shifting with my right hand.

Yes, back then it was an art to learn how to shift while keeping an arm around the girl.

By around do you mean over her back on the shifter as she sucked your cock? God I miss the younger years. We'd drive down to Florida without stopping. I was kept awake by a bj every 2 hours during the 12-6am time frame. She'd sleep for an hour or two and I'd just nudge her for the next round.

Better than caffeine is all I'll say.
121   komputodo   2024 Dec 1, 8:39am

the funnest thing about a manual tranny is shifting without using the clutch. Especially downshifting...pop it into neutral and revving the engine to match the speed and dropping it into a lower gear...

Contemplating getting into the vinyl game. I have about 200 records, mostly classic rock, but I need a better record player. I have a brand I want, but $500 on a record player is going to get me into trouble. I'm already probably dropping $5k at least on a home theater. Might be $10k.... I'm gonna get myself in trouble with the wife.

Live once. I love the sound of vinyl but it's better stoned. I'm done with that game. I might revisit it, but it's already been 18 months no weed. It will probably be vacation only at this point and I won't have a record player with me.

Ever heard VHS HiFi? Best analogue by far. Some studios recorded with it back in the day but it never caught on. It was like running tape at 30 feet per second (Flying heads).

We had a VHS HiFi deck back in the day. I agree, it was almost as good as CD, but analog. IIRC it was 80 dB channel separation and something comparable for dynamic range. That blew vinyl out of the water even back in the 80's.

I think CD's are awful. Digital blows it away. I've gone to live shows and get audio that's better than studio. Vinyl just has a unique sound that I cannot describe if you have a solid record player and speakers.

Get some studio monitors for digital music. Your world will change. About peed my pants the first time I jammed out on them. A good mix get around you if that makes sense. You hear it like the engineer and band wanted it to sound. Your car or standard speakers cannot replicate it.

Au contraire - I've got 7.1 surround with the .1 being 4000 watts of servo bass goodness calibrated with MSO. I also have SACD, but Sony in their greed made it practically un-rippable without a modded PS3, so it's dying on the vine. Everyone (musicians included) are in awe of what I accomplished on a beer budget. It helps being an EE and having a background in signal processing.

Multichannel is sublime. I rent so I can't do ATMOS, but my system still made the low flyby in "Ford vs. Ferrari" turn heads.

I'm talking music. 2 channel L/R. I can't stand subs listening to music. The mix wasn't designed for that in studio when real bands make music. Maybe rap/hip hop. 95% of people just listen on standard speakers. With studio monitors you get the max range of frequency and don't need a sub. Quality headphones are the same. Added subs are for movies for effects, not music in my opinion outside of live music given the acoustics of most venues.

I have a basic 5.1 system now and can't stand music on it. Solid speakers too. That one is designed for movies though. New system in the house will be off the charts. I will never go to a movie theater again. I need to figure out the projector for video though.

I do want a higher end record player though. I have access to hundreds of 45rpm records for cheap. Singles, but still some cool stuff. I work with a guy that does estate sales and I can get some weird vintage shit for next to nothing. I hope to not become a hoarder like him, but I can get some cool old shit and flip it. I'm an old 41 at heart. If I could piss on music somehow it would be about 2010 till now. Absolute shit show.

It's called 'rexxing'. And it was invented by GenX.

It was also decent aerobic exercise, too.
