I just learned the G was referred to as
" 'Granny' gear—a super-low first gear in some old manual transmissions (like in trucks) for high torque at low speeds, like crawling over obstacles. In certain Porsches, 'G' means 'Gelände' (terrain) for off-road. Classic dad joke setup!"
