The ten years or so leading up to his death. Were the best years of Grateful Dead. It was a wonderful time to enjoy their music and take in a show. The people that went were generally good people. You had your weird Hippies and Cultish looking cliques in busses. But if you just avoided them, and just mingled with the other like minded folks. You had a great memorable time. It certainly doesn't surprise me that He attended a Dead show and met Jerry. The way he turned out, is exactly why I liked those folks. I'm certain many or most of the kids who went to those shows all turned out alright. I always felt there was a huge distinction between people who appreciated the Dead and would attend a show, vs the trust fund kids, or outright hobos, that would follow them around from show to show. They were a different breed, hope lost on most of them and probably most turned up homeless. Aside from that even they were decent people, just always needy. As they would depend on the kindness of strangers to travel around from town to town. Unless they were rich Jewish trust fund kids.
After Jerry died, the whole jam band scene changed. The intrepid wanderers were darker and angrier the shows attracted introverted unfriendly fans, just a different scene altogether. Like the idiots that goes to the Burning Man festivals. Back then heads would have the good sense to do something like that in mountain setting, not a freaking desert. I guess we/they had more common sense back then, festival goers today, seem to lack any of that. Plus they are probably Democrats. Which is probably why.
I don't think heads back then were political and didn't give two shits if you were or who you wanted to vote for.

Nah, it was good in the early 2000's. Never was into the Dead. Never saw Jerry live, but they weren't that great. Listen to well over 100 hours of shows of the Dead. Sleeper music.
I'd go to festivals in 2001 and after I would hang out with the bands. Except for the early years, Jerry probably wasn't accessible. I'd play frisbee golf, basketball, give them shit walking around festivals with the early 2000's jam bands. They're young geezers, but Umphrey's McGee and Moe are my guys. Had some good times with those guys. Including a tornado.
One high school crush I should have banged and wanted to slept with the bassist of UM. Our crew was epic. Had a group of chicks that called themselves band whores. My wife was one. I had way too much fun.
Patnet poll. Which one is me. I shouldn't be doxing myself this much... whatever. 9 people have ignored me so not worried about getting killed by them.
