Maybe women are put off by the tits thread, or the argumentative nature of the site.

I suppose I cannot know about the effects of the cheesecake thread, but I am going to say it's not because of the "argumentative nature".

I have been observing and participating with this site since the real estate focused days. I say this place has done a really good job. Interactions are mostly, relatively, constructive (and not uncommonly informative, funny and entertaining). I do not remember this site ever devolving into endless, insufferable flaming, from barely literate troglodytes, for example.

Tell me where a person can find better.

@Kep Thank you!

Let me know if you see a way I can get the site more visibility.

I'd be interested to know how long the PatNet members lurked before registering (try before you buy period). I'll start - I think it was close to 10 years. @Patrick you might be able to confirm this, but probably not, since I've had a major geographic change in the last 20 years - You'd have to have a really long IP history cached.
39   WookieMan   2024 Sep 29, 4:40am

I lurked for 5 years. Joined and didn't make a comment for about 3 years. 13k+ comments and 9 ignores later.

I miss some of the older petty users that always wanted to argue, but when found wrong they cut and run. Have had two long timers recently do it. Just own what you type here. If you're wrong you're wrong. It's not the end of the world. Just don't dox yourself is my biggest suggestion and second is don't get butt hurt. Sometimes it's best to ignore a post.

It's not a bad thing, but some users you're never going to convince or convert here even if you're 100% right.

@stereotomy I don't keep very old log files, so I don't have any way of telling how long people lurk. I supposed I could keep records of all the old IP addresses, but it doesn't seem worthwhile.

I was able to tell how long people go between registering and making their first comment, because the database has registration date and all the comments have a date. 84% of users make their first comment on the day of registration. The longest lag between registering and commenting was 4117 days, which is over eleven years.

For those that took a day or more, here is a log-log graph:

42   ElYorsh   2024 Sep 29, 11:13am

I lurked around since Obama's real estate crash and started to value the quality and substance of some of the commentators. I think I finally registered when my brain disconnected from the MSM matrix during the Trump years.
43   Maga_Chaos_Monkey   2024 Sep 29, 12:04pm

I lurked for a few years starting in 2007 and then joined one day when my toilet broke.

Likely the TD exposure. The site was mentioned multiple times on the show. Not sure what network, but you'll still get 500k to 1M viewers on those crime shows. That's a ton of hits. No one watches in real time anymore so you'll have residual users for years.

Beat me. I think I was roughly 1,200 lurk and 1,200 days after registering before my first comment. I could be way off. Either way lurkers, make a damn comment. I'm still the spring chicken out of this group.... I think.
51   Patrick   2024 Oct 4, 9:59pm

@WookieMan I just calculated 1391 days for you after registering before your first comment. So 1200 is a pretty good guess!
52   stfu   2024 Oct 5, 4:21am

I was one of those that registered just to post after reading for a long time. There use to be a libby fuck always arguing with Dan but arguments had no rational thought process and no basis in observational fact. I forget the posters name but my user name is literally my response to it.
53   Baloo   2024 Oct 5, 7:16am

Lurking since 2008 when this was a real estate blog. I still remember Patrick's article on why you should not buy a house. Rediscovered Patnet during the Trump years. I think my first comment was in the Vax Era- I was just stunned by the number of people I knew lining up to get injected with an unknown substance, barely tested, for an illness that had an almost zero chance of hurting them. I read Patnet to reassure myself there are some sane people who saw through the psyop, and I come for the memes!

I'd be wielding my 11-foot pole to prevent that syphilitic crack-whore methhead from getting anywhere near me. That's beyond terrifying.

Where do you live that people look like this?

I'm honestly confused about certain regions. I would never see anything like this in my area. Drunks, sure. Meth and pills, nope. Some of you need to take leadership to clean up your towns and cities. Or move. If something like that image is normal, you're allowing it.

I am real. Not necessarily spectacular, lol. Found out about the site via a tv show too. Ironically or coincidentally involved the tatas thread. Hello all.

Pretty sure it was Dateline. The site did get mentioned from the TD posting of her Tatas maybe having an influence on the rage. Likely other reasons. There was a user that was discussing (privately) with Dr. Sills and I think he came upon the site.

Online is a rabbit hole if you're not sane. I try to have fun with it. Vent my life's bullshit. Have some good conversation or argument. It's like social media. Everyone posting photos of them and their kids having fun is all bull shit. People "feel" like they have to do that stuff. I just don't care. I know most of the people and they and their kids are suffering.

I troll my own wife with one photo. I printed it and had it framed. She was so fucking pissed at me in that photo. Level 10 for us. I gave it as a xmas gift. We're by a lake by Mt. Hood. Beautiful. I laugh my ass off knowing how mad she was.

New users don't take anything too seriously here. Have fun. There are some smart peeps and a few ass holes. I can be one at times.

SO..

About 2022 or so, @EBGuy raged about the titties being displayed on the site. Even in user profile pics. He pushed the bullshit narrative that the site would never grow as long as it was family 'unfriendly'. I called bullshit on that nonsense but @Patrick bought it hook, line & sinker. So I had to change my profile pic and Patrick even changed the display size of it in the comments.

Only the Great Swarm of Family Friendly New Users never arrived, EBGuy has been AWOL, and the new surge in users we do have is partially BECAUSE of the tatas page itself.

Do I have this correct?
66   WookieMan   2024 Oct 10, 8:14am

DemocratsAreTotallyFucked says

I think so.

My comments were quoted in articles online. I wasn't talking about the tatas though, just thought it was fishy that a younger woman would die falling down the stairs. My wife is of similar age as TD was at that time right now and could easily handle a stair fall.

That whole situation sucked. But ultimately it was one crazy SOB that got messed up by something in his head. She was just having fun. She didn't know her husband was a lunatic. I hate this topic as I'm pretty certain family still lurks here.

That's why I say have fun here. Don't take anything seriously new users. There will be some harsh takes. Don't let it bother you. If anything it will thicken your skin. Your friend are friends for a reason. Don't expect to make online friends. Just have fun. I still need to meet @Patrick - I have no CA trips planned though. Hoping it will happen at some point.
67   stereotomy   2024 Oct 10, 6:16pm

The "anonymity" of the internet sometimes causes people to do things that they would never do (i.e. for free) in real life. When the anonymity is compromised, tragedies both great and small ensue. Think before you post.

It used to be that the internet was forever; considering how everything is now being scrubbed, perhaps the public internet no longer has this power. However, ever since 9/11/01, the NSA's goal (revealed by Snowden) was to tap into all internet trunk lines and store everything everyone ever posted on the intarwebs. After 20 years and exabytes of storage at multiple locations, they have pretty much achieved that goal.

@Patrick is right - if you're letting NSA cutouts like Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. hoover up your postings, then they can tap that resource anytime you lift your head up too high to smack you down to oblivion.

Even if you're innocent of any crime, they can hack into any system using backdoors that they mandated by law and download mass child porn to any computer they want and tip off the FBI to do their shock and awe SWAT thing.
