Why does finding a hair in your plate of food gross so many people out? Even to the point that they won't continue eating?

Kinda makes sense. Hair is quite germy, and it's proof that the food was is not meeting sanitary standards so it implies other things could be in there too.

My wife has fed me hairs, fallen off finger bandages, and even an earwig once in her preparations, so the hair is the least of my worries.

I showed her in the vacuum cleaner brush that a lot of the hairs were hers and not the dogs', which, of course, earned me a ticket to the dog house where I could meditate on my flattery skills.

I'm probably grossed out too but I'm still eating, to hell with it.

I mean, are guys here saying they never ate pussy or something?

While we're on a gross subject, I had a friend (RIP) that, among his many other jobs, was a cook at a restaurant. He once told me to 'never eat at any restaurant where you can't see the food being prepared. If you saw what some of these cooks do to food, you'd never eat out again.' The other thing I recall is that he said to never have your food sent back for a warm up because cooks are typically offended by that so they'll warm it up with a little spit for spice!

On a personal note; a long time ago, during a very slow economy, I worked for about 6 months for a national pest control company as a trained, licensed inspector/salesman (that's a whole subject in itself). One of my tasks was to identify problems and then provide estimates to commercial outlets with restaurants being #1 on the list. Virtually every kitchen that I inspected was greasy, dirty and had a roach problem, and that included high end restaurants! I recall only one that didn't. It was a Chinese restaurant that was run by a very nice family and the entire place was spotless.

You have the experience more than I do it sounds like. I just wonder back in the kitchen before ordering. They're not gonna kick out paying costumers. Pretend like you're lost and looking for the bathroom. Takes two seconds in a kitchen to know. I only do this locally. Traveling is harder, but have to trust at some point.

Hair in food is impossible to stop. Hair net or whatever. Other things are 1,000% preventable. Gotta pay someone for an hour or so, but that's better than getting someone sick. Takes 30 minutes to clean counters and higher level stuff and 30 to mop the floor. There are good, lazy and bad kitchens. The bad are obvious.

For example one restaurant in town I'll only eat their pub pizza. Really can't fuck that up. I trust the BBQ place and know the owners. They suck at staffing, but it's a clean kitchen. Just got a new place that opening. Need to do my check on them.

Even if it says employees only, just act retarded. You can get into anything not needing an ID acting retarded. It's a public establishment after all. Why can't I check out the kitchen?

you are saying that if some lab could grind up a hair and put that minute amount of dust into your food, that you could get sick? Man, people are getting to damn delicate
