It really was the beginning of Corporate Anti-Americanism. Walton died, and Scott started the wave of pressuring and strong arming supplies to move to China, laid off long time employees to save a quarter or two, and encouraged workers to go on welfare and benefits. Turned a competitor of K-Mart and Target into an outsourcing, cheapest gov-subsidized labor monster. Even their distribution centers started bidding wars where taxpayers got fleeced

Walmart deindustrialized America and did more damage in a decade than the entire weight of the Soviets failed to do in 60 years.

There was no unaffordability crisis at the IGA or Al's bait shop or Patriot Gun Supply before Walmart came to town.

Pleasant, orderly regional department stores, Sears, K-Mart were replaced with the hellhole that most Walmarts are.

I also have to de-Amazon harder than I have been.

In many rural areas, Walmart is the darkest red blot of crime in the whole county.

Lol, the race card as cover for shoplifting.

To the point though, Walmart definitely sucks. Sucks all the blood out of America and sends it to China and the Walton family.

Calling K-Mart "pleasant" is a stretch, imo. I never seen much difference between it and Walmart.

Does anyone actually go to one? Only time I do is during travel and it's on the way to a vacation rental or hotel and is the only option. We never shop at Walmart otherwise. We have big gas stations in the midwest and could buy 90% of what we need there besides meat and produce.

We're Jewel (Albertsons in other parts of the country) and Aldi. Wife will do Target occasionally. I can't stand stores that sell food with clothing and electronics. Weird take, but I don't care. It's off-putting to me. One of my high school jobs was a Meijer working in sporting goods. We had deer piss on the shelf for hunters....

I'm kind of anal about food. Frankly think it shouldn't be mixed with other non food products. Charcoal, magazines, birthday cards, flowers, etc. are fine. Deer piss? Car batteries? Oil? There's plenty of other examples. I was a kid, but if you work the back room, you know what you know.

"Walmart has raped me"?

Winco and Walmart are only places to shop here. Albertsons is too expensive. i can’t stand walmart, all cashiers been replaced by self checkouts. it’s amazon of big box retail.

if walmart goes it’ll be massive food inflation here. we too have poor and illegals who can’t afford anything. and businesses keep bringing them from across the border nonstop. if they can’t afford food… crime will skyrocket. our system is massively failing. working people have no leverage, incomes are shit, businesses pay no taxes, welfare grows out of necessity, more and more illegals come in. this is gonna crash one day.

I view WalMart as the lessor of evils when it comes to retail. Tariffs will fix their dependance on China.

Eh, I don't look at prices. Spending $2-5k extra on groceries a year isn't really a big deal. I'd rather stay at a Marriot versus a Super 8 is all I'll say. Not meant as a dig, but back to the retirement age thread I get one shot at this. I'm going to treat myself.

I just don't like going into a Walmart either. It's depressing to be honest. I actually don't mind certain places with self checkout. Keeps you away from Shaquanda or Tiffany from the trailer park.

My beef with self checkouts is beer. Someone has to come over and approve it. I then go to a regular checkout and they're all 18-20. "21 on register 8." I clearly look old enough to be over 21. I know they need someone to scan it, but an 18 year old can't make that decision? Many places scan the ID. Hard to fake that.

Another benefit of small towns. I'll never get carded anywhere. Non-locals are all required to be ID' when buying alcohol. They just say what's up (my name) and they don't care. I know their kids, I know their parents, and hell grandparents. Walmart takes that away. We're no where near close to a Walmart level town. Need 10k more residents. Not happening in my lifetime and I won't allow it either.

Walmart just doesn't offer much to me. Their Low Price policy, while good for those on an extreme budget, causes many suppliers to go out of business, if they aren't very careful as they lower quality to reduce cost. It's similar to that CCP outlet, Harbor Freight Tools. It's cheap and Chinese. Amazon is also CCP-complicit, refusing to list the country of origin when I search for "Made in America" goods.

I just assume it's all made in China from Amazon or Walmart. I'll get stupid shit from time to time. I got a Yeti style coozie with a bluetooth speaker attached. Like I said, stupid, but it's kind of nice when at the beach or camping.

Point being when you power it on it's a hysterical Chinese woman's voice. Powa on. Connecta'd. If I knew it was going to be that retarded I would have just bought it to turn on and off to hear that and not for putting beers in it.

In upscale areas, no. In areas where a hood is within 20 miles, massive difference even 20 years ago.

Winco

One of my favorites. Not in Florida (or on the East Coast AFAIK), sadly.

Fair enough. My point was that Walmart started what Amazon finished.

Just like with Walmart, Americans who "Designed in America" get it made in China, in a couple of years their product gets copied, often with Amazon's assistance.

Amazon is getting it now from Temu and Shein. I won't be sad when Amazon admin personnel get laid off and cry about CHYna; what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Shein is much easier to find clothes on than Amazon, but Ebay is still the king if you're looking for exact matches and you save big on used.
16   Misc   2024 Oct 23, 10:55pm

Ebay is cheaper because that's where LaSchwanda fences the merchandise she acquires.

Temu & Shein still pay for the crap they sell even if it is slave wages.

I'm in a rural area and I found that I don't need that store at all. Current prices are better elsewhere everyone in the store seems to have a snap card and self checkout? the place is to fricken big anyways. Groceries and beer cost to much in this place. Home depot isn't much better they have been reduced to selling junk.
18   Ceffer   2024 Oct 24, 11:41am

Without Walmart, where will DHS and FEMA get their impromptu gulag camps and pedo tunnels?

Yeah, Home Depot has the same crap as Amazon or the Northern Tool type places, but more expensive.

Etsy is where people claim to have made it by hand but are mostly reselling or dropshipping it from CHYna

I have noticed that at Lowe's some of the Kobalt hand tools are American made and appear to be from who used to make them for Craftsman. The "Made in USA" cost more but worth it.

I have at a problem with paints. $15/gallon paints from 2014 did fine, but today's $40/gallon paints are thin like mixed with water.

Gotta go to a paint store. Not sure if they're where you're at, but Sherman Williams has done good by me. That's where I get anything paint. Expensive, but good.

I'm handy, but haven't had to step foot in a Home Depot or Lowes in 3-4 years. I'll hit up an Ace Hardware first.

Second that: big box store paints don't hold a candle to real paint store stuff.

Also if you have a painter friend they will get you the discount so it's not as expensive. 11 years ago, but he painted everything in a 1,264sf house for $1,100. Trim, doors, walls, ceiling. Really good painter. Wife picked some great colors too.

Besides the furnace and water heater that was the only other thing I sub'd out. Remodeled the whole house myself working 18 hours a day for a month and sleeping on an air mattress away from the kids and wife.

My only beef was he got me smoking cigs again for another 3 years. And yes, I own that's my fault, but I blame him... Think I'm nearing 7 years without a smoke. Occasional cigar. Did a lot of drinking and power tool usage during that month. It was kind of fun. Some of the best 6 hours of sleep I got in a long time and didn't have to deal with my youngest being a baby at that time.

In the late 1990s when I was buying and restoring houses, I loved the Duron paint store. Great interior and exterior paints and even the brush I bought from them lasted for years of heavy use. Unfortunately, Sherwin Williams bought out and closed down Duron. I found that exterior Sherwin Williams paints are easy to apply (why the pros like SW) but do not last.

If Trump gets elected, I wonder if he'll start some real tariff wars. There will be pain for a while, but we can begin to weaken China and strengthen the USA industrial base again. We used to fund the country entirely with Tariffs. Then Income taxes began domestic theft in earnest.

I visited Bucee's for my 1st time last February. I was in a hurry so just did a lap to check it out. Seemed like some of the food might have been yummy. It was full of Walmart people though.
