This article refers to the concept with the example of widespread private knowledge not being believed until an event forced the holders of such knowledge to believe that everyone became aware of it (became common knowledge) and only then start the stampede for gates. The two examples it gives are Harvey Weinstein being a serial rapist and Joe Biden being senile.
