Incredible string of films up to 1990. Dead of a heart attack at age 59 in 2009.

Cocaine likely based on the movies. Pretty much everyone in those movies was coked out. I knew a kid in Uncle Buck a year older than me. Died of a cocaine induced heart attack. Obese as an adult. 38 I think, maybe 36. Not a joke.

That was the prime time era of cocaine. Every movie for sure has a coke head in it as the lead or supporting.

Cocaine is toxic to heart muscle and conduction pathways. It was often the celebrity arbiter of sudden death before the vaccines.

Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, National Lampoon Vacation movies, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck and Home Alone. That is some record!

Are you saying it was the nose candy that sparked this run?

Wookie, all those movies of wealthy Chicago suburb teen angst must have surely struck a chord with you.

Winnetka, IL (Uncle Buck): According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Winnetka's median household income exceeded $250,000 in 2022.

Cocaine was massive everywhere those years those movies were shot. I was too young to ever think of partaking, but it was big in my high school. Shared the same building in middle school with the high schoolers. For whatever reason it was huge in the midwest. Graduated 2001. So 1994-5 I was introduced to it. Again never have used the stuff.

My high school was in the middle of cornfields. It was weird how much of it was available. Along with other drugs. I had one former good buddy that would do LSD everyday at school. I do think it caused him brain damage. Still see him occasionally but something is off with him.

Winnetka is much higher than $250k. That's probably just W-2 income earners. You need $500k+ at minimum to live there. Most of them are leveraging assets and stocks tax free to fund their lifestyle. It's an inherited wealth (Jewish) suburb. Mom and dad die and you get $5-10M easy. Print the interest for daily living expenses and leverage it for toys and cars tax free.

Funny that Winnetka is the first time I encountered a PCP guy in rage. It was flipping crazy. I have nothing against Jews, but again it was at a Jewish home. The north shore suburbs of Chicago are wealthy but I've always gotten a bad vibe when up there. I'd never live there in even the nicest house. Has a mafia vibe. In IL I'd go Northwest or West of Chicago beyond the big suburbs. Never go south of I-80. I'm just glad to have my happy place where I'm at. No drama. No frills. We just make our own fun.
