India: It’s Worse Than You Think

Most Westerners know nothing about India beyond vague ideas about Hinduism, yoga, gurus, and maybe a dash of Bollywood. To such people, this article will be a rude awakening. ...

I had first returned to India with the idea of improving it, but after 11 years, I realized that India was a sinking ship, with worsening and increasingly shameless corruption, degraded people, and a society that was falling apart. I had never met an honest bureaucrat or politician. I applied to emigrate to Canada and my application was approved in a record three weeks.

I now advise East Asian and Western corporations on investing in India. Most of what I tell them sounds to them exaggerated, unrealistic, and unbelievable. After much dance, drama, and a great deal of lost money, they begin to believe what I tell them. However, this learning is never institutionalized because of a refusal to understand India. This is a form of political correctness, a poison eating away the innards of Western values.

When I was a child growing up in India, I learned that “might makes right.” Power was often abused, with those in control acting as if they had a God-given right to exploit and dominate others. The display of authority could be so extreme that questioning it or expecting those in power to do their duty might lead to retribution. Those in authority seemed to believe that their positions were not for serving others but for personal gain.

People who showed respect appeared to have meekly accepted a lower, subservient position. Kind people had to hide their compassion, for being nice was seen as a weakness.

In India, I have rarely seen someone in authority take the initiative to solve a problem he was responsible for. When I was at university, an underaged boy who worked in the kitchen was raped and sodomized by the janitors. I reported the matter, but not only did no one in authority do what was right — something well within their power — the authorities and fellow students threatened me with severe consequences if I pursued the matter further. Devoid of empathy, they also made fun of the boy and me.

Yes, there is an element of sadism here. There is some degree of pleasure that Indians take in the pain suffered by others. The attitude of the authorities was like that of the high-placed Delhi bureaucrat who told me that his Black Label whiskey tastes so much better because he knows that most Indians can’t afford to drink it.

This confuses Westerners. If they had power, even if they were corrupt, in a situation where there was nothing to gain or lose — no bribes to receive since both parties were poor, and no risk of offending someone well-connected — they would do the right thing and book the alleged rapist. These Indians would do nothing, not even lift a finger, unless there was a reward: money or sex. Their apathy was bottomless.

The article goes on about how incredibly low-trust India is as a society.

True? Any people from India want to opine on this?

Molotov what kind of food do you eat? Do you eat sausage made from pig intestine? Or hotdogs full of mystery meat which includes shit n piss of animals? Speaking of shitting ,where do most of the world before 100 years or solders in field shit? , 20% of Americans eat ass, you should look into it.

Spices, onion, garlic n many other are very flavorful but creates smell for some people. Just because you haven't found flavor it sucks for you. Columbus was looking for route to india to get spices, in those days you bribe people with spices. So indirectly usa was found because of spices

Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim ...
After the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians lost their lives.
Trump invited him to White House for dinner!

Trump is not any different from any other president who is against India as part of the policy.

If you get to know India men, etc., the females are even worse. I sell to them at an open market. Now, the ladies, I will toy with them, as they toy with me, the lady might be wearing, sometimes 10 thousand in gold on her wrists, neck, etc. but will fight over a dollar or two with me on cost. They are known to be the most racist country in the world. Their much younger children, as in they are now 20-25 years old can be way more with the times as in tolerance and acceptance of others and being cool with all people in general. I thought Meet the Patels was alright, but it's the only thing I've watched from them.

The H1B who come to the states, so many are masters degrees the lottery system is corrupt, your buying a ticket because your parents are rich. So, if they seem spoiled and entitled it's because they are. They are smart, they know how to mediate, relax the mind. But, it's rare you will see one marrying a white girl. They will settle here, quite often, their country is kind of a you know, kind of toxic.

The Western ideal of a meritocracy indifferent to race or other background is not shared by most of the world, so it becomes a weak point when we get too many immigrants from outside the West.

OTOH, their children may become well assimilated. The Irish had a reputation for hiring only their own for big city government jobs, but are now pretty much entirely assimilated into Anglo culture.

I heard about this; in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, there are many elected Irish judges.

Yes, and for maybe 100 years most police and firemen in big cities were Irish.

"but will fight over a dollar or two with me on cost "
You are a street vendor , in india culture is to bargain with street vendors and usually you can lower it to 25% of original price. If you were selling in actual store they won't bargain, if they like it they will pay.

"They are known to be the most racist country in the world. " These surveys are very biased. Only people who want to loot, destroy or convert have issue. India is only country where jews were never persecuted, they are there since 2000 years ago. Parsis , tibetians, zorastrians, sindhis, sikhs, buddists ,Christians , jains, all were persecuted by islam but took asylum in india and are living there 1000s of years. Multi god acceptance allows people to be ok with other beliefs. Go to ajanta caves hindu, buddist, jain temple coexist for 1400, islam destroyed some of it. There are 2000 year old churches n mosques also. Mistake of India is that it allwed muslim population to grow too.much now they bite the hand that fed them.

That bar graph makes no sense. There is no "Caribbean" when you have Dominican, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico (at least Eastern shore line), Haiti, Jamaica, Guatemala (east coast) on the list. Those are all Caribbean....

This is why I hate images. Pictures can say a thousand words OR lies. And who the hell are the Personal Financial Wizards? Graph is 100% BS. It was created to make a false narrative against some group.

I have a feeling that "excessive paperwork" is a conduit or even a euphemism for "bribes."

Perhaps and several years ago I saw an article that claimed that it takes about 3 years to get a business license in India vs. 1 day in China and 3 months typically in the US. Because of crap like this. Waiting for your government forms and paperwork to go through the system. The article was also putting a spin on it being due to the fact that India is a pure democracy and not a republic.

If I recall it took me less than 4 weeks in Hawaii and they are snailish and run on "Island Time".
261   Patrick   2025 Jul 5, 1:33pm

Why is there any business license requirement at all, beyond establishing the identity of the owners so that someone is liable for whatever illegal activity the business does?

Hawaii requires it for vacation rentals. You get tax ids to pay several types of taxes, like the hotel industry does.

Result of communism in action!
Lots gov employees are selected not based on the merit!
Most of them have no clue about the real world!
Long time ago, I applied for one to manufacture TVs and kept going to the office to get appointment. When I finally able to meet with official after bribing who immediately told me so many things are wrong with my application and threatening the consequences if I don’t get so many certifications.
That would take few years!
He gaslighted me that I was already making TVs! That means more bribes. Turns out, there are so many gov devils in line hiding for money ;)
Finally got paperwork only to realize that a small fraction of the sales should go to paper work to cover very high taxes and still have to pay monthly bribes for things which are not on the paper!
I am sure, things might have changed a little bit now but not enough to compete with other countries.

India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant has left its port and is heading toward Pakistan.
