India: It’s Worse Than You Think

Most Westerners know nothing about India beyond vague ideas about Hinduism, yoga, gurus, and maybe a dash of Bollywood. To such people, this article will be a rude awakening. ...

I had first returned to India with the idea of improving it, but after 11 years, I realized that India was a sinking ship, with worsening and increasingly shameless corruption, degraded people, and a society that was falling apart. I had never met an honest bureaucrat or politician. I applied to emigrate to Canada and my application was approved in a record three weeks.

I now advise East Asian and Western corporations on investing in India. Most of what I tell them sounds to them exaggerated, unrealistic, and unbelievable. After much dance, drama, and a great deal of lost money, they begin to believe what I tell them. However, this learning is never institutionalized because of a refusal to understand India. This is a form of political correctness, a poison eating away the innards of Western values.

When I was a child growing up in India, I learned that “might makes right.” Power was often abused, with those in control acting as if they had a God-given right to exploit and dominate others. The display of authority could be so extreme that questioning it or expecting those in power to do their duty might lead to retribution. Those in authority seemed to believe that their positions were not for serving others but for personal gain.

People who showed respect appeared to have meekly accepted a lower, subservient position. Kind people had to hide their compassion, for being nice was seen as a weakness.

In India, I have rarely seen someone in authority take the initiative to solve a problem he was responsible for. When I was at university, an underaged boy who worked in the kitchen was raped and sodomized by the janitors. I reported the matter, but not only did no one in authority do what was right — something well within their power — the authorities and fellow students threatened me with severe consequences if I pursued the matter further. Devoid of empathy, they also made fun of the boy and me.

Yes, there is an element of sadism here. There is some degree of pleasure that Indians take in the pain suffered by others. The attitude of the authorities was like that of the high-placed Delhi bureaucrat who told me that his Black Label whiskey tastes so much better because he knows that most Indians can’t afford to drink it.

This confuses Westerners. If they had power, even if they were corrupt, in a situation where there was nothing to gain or lose — no bribes to receive since both parties were poor, and no risk of offending someone well-connected — they would do the right thing and book the alleged rapist. These Indians would do nothing, not even lift a finger, unless there was a reward: money or sex. Their apathy was bottomless.

The article goes on about how incredibly low-trust India is as a society.

True? Any people from India want to opine on this?

KgK one says

Even Indian people here prefer less h1, as jobs are not available easily.

That makes sense.

Legal Hispanics in the US are also opposed to illegals who take their jobs and drive down their wages.

SUMMARY OF H-1B EXECUTIVE ORDER

- ENTRY BAN: No H-1B visa holder may enter the United States beginning Sunday September 21st, including current visa holders, unles they pay $100K to enter.

- VISA FEE: New H-1B and H-1B extensions must pay 100K to be processed and 100K per year every year thereafter to maintain them.

This will effectively end the H-1B program completely. No one, even the highest paid at 500K will be paying an extra 100K a year to the government.

This is the Trump we want to see. Anything to stop Indians from immigrating to the West

The absolutely worst group of people to live around outside of African Americans.

Do you think India knows by now that every country very much dislikes them?

There’s not a single country in the world that would vote to increase Indian immigration if you put that question directly to the people via referendum

not. one.

That's why with the exception of the Swiss, they don't get such votes brought to the Peeps.

I am seeing Canadians on X posting, "Good! We'll take them!" which is bullshit.

Irrespective of Trump’s occasional positive and negative statements about India, I keep repeating MAGA doesn't want India to grow. They are already regretting China's growth. US very well understands IT is backbone of our economy.

MAGA, primarily white Americans hate Indians doing well in US.

They'll send back as many Indians as possible from USA. Not everyone in Indian IT is irreplaceable. Already AI is eliminating low end and entry level jobs. Big Tech is also seriously thinking about bringing high end jobs back to US and also outsource them to many other countries as they can't get a single country similar to ours for complete outsourcing.

The day is not far off IT industry in India would become unviable as Trump may tariff IT services also heavily.

It may take couple of years for these developments to play out.

Suffering of IT industry means suffering of entire urban India and white collar economy.

Be cautious with your money. For example, it may not be a right time to 'invest' in real estate.

Real estate stands on two pillars - legal money from IT professionals in India and NRIs. The other pillar is parking of black money by corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen.

If the first pillar gets affected, second too would be impacted. Demand would slow down. Money flow in economy would come down. You need good money flow in the economy for corruption too.

I'm more pessimistic about Indian economy and markets for next 3 to 5 years. I would be happy to be proven wrong. But this is how I see it now.

Rumors is that when india did retaliatory attack in pakistan, it bombed us assets unknowingly or knowingly. Us can't spreak about it without admitting it has base there. Trump started putting 50% tarriff n h1b ban etc after that.

India with hugh population will buy cheapest oil, unless trump has way to get that from other countries , india will buy from russia. Eu also buys tons from Russia, they had nodserm pipeline. Looks like Russia war is not going well and since they can't do much agaist Russia or China, they picking 3rd best option.

Fremont seems to be majority H1B. In a rational world, prices should fall dramatically there. But sometimes the world is not rational.

I figure rents will go down first.

Also, it has been mostly overlooked but Trump also gave Rubio power to cut down on H-4s. Spouses/minor children of H1Bs. They start racking up fees for or just ending those period will send the Indians packing home. And big business can't justify fighting over those since H-4s don't contribute to their bottom line. Oh, they'll bitch but that's all.

https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/trumps-new-100000-visa-fee-could-be-devastating-indias-economy

India is the largest recipient of remittances from the US in the world (cash wired by migrants from the US back home). Without feeding on remittances from America, India loses out on over $140 billion (around 30% of their annual tax revenues). Without this cash, India's economy would implode.

Furthermore, India's rupee has hit record lows against the dollar this month. The country is highly dependent on oil imports and oil is primarily purchased with dollars. The flow of dollars from migrants in the US into India's economy is more important than ever. The loss of dollars flowing from 300,000+ Indian workers living in the US could be devastating.

358   MolotovCocktail   2025 Sep 20, 6:56pm

Ahhhh...the panic!

Suggestions for H1Bs who are already in the US and not immediately affected by the 100K H1B fee:

You are not safe just because you don't immediately need a renewal or travel outside of US. Companies will make policies that impact all H1Bs. You are lucky as you have some time to execute the below suggestions to come out ahead, while you still can:

- Dispose of your assets in the US while there is still time. Do NOT delay this.
- Start with hard assets like houses. Dont wait to maximise the profit. US housing market can collapse any time and H1B sell off can trigger it. The first movers will get out fine. Accept the first good offer you get and move to a small rental. Sell off useless furniture.
- If your family members are dependents, send them back to India asap. Schooling can be worked out.

- Buy an apartment or plot of land in India if you don't have one already.
- Sell off expensive cars and get a used cheap car.
- Move money from US stock market and invest in Gold ETFs in India. Unlike US ETFs, Indian ETFs have equivalent physical gold. This will protect your investment from US-INR conversion volatility.
- Get out of crypto. Holding crypto while in India is going to be a regulatory hassle.
- Avoid paying for expensive tuition in the US if your kids are not US citizens or expected to be GC holders by the time they graduate. There are good private colleges in India they can go to.
- Apply for a role in GCC in India if your company as an Indian GCC or apply for roles in Dubai or Singapore or other GCCs in India.

Being stuck in the US with no path to GC and unable to change jobs or visit your family is mental torture. Don't prolong the suffering. Wisdom is knowing when to cut the losses.

Rebuild your life with confidence, happiness and prosperity outside of US. Best wishes!

Friends, RT max / tag your H1 friends. Let this message reach those in need.

That is what I am counting on happening in Fremont, especially.

Indian GCC

Never heard of these before:

Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India. India hosts over 1,800 GCCs, which are centers for research and development, innovation, and other business functions. They are established by multinational corporations to leverage India's skilled workforce, cost advantages, and technology infrastructure.

And those are fucked too, if the HIRE Act passes (which I admit is very iffy) unwatered down (very likely).
