Of course, you could say ALL religions are devices to control slaves. A bit of human sacrifice in the Jesus story, with a kind of Osiris rebirth. Communion at mass with 'transubstantiation' of the wafer and wine into the body and blood of Christ etc.

Ok, I get that a Catholic sect can be guilty of sexual abuse (happens all the time), financial abuse ( isn't the whole thing is to take money from people while promising them an afterlife) or maybe the sect leadership took too much of a vig and just sent a paltry amount to the Vatican, but spiritual abuse???

I'm Catholic. It was a shit show as a kid. Never had a Diddy party at church, but it was beyond weird. Outside of funerals I won't step foot in a church except for those that passed. I'll usually skip the wedding ceremony for that event and just show up to the reception. That's how much disgust I have for religion.
