Wall Street Apes has some great stories about health insurance covered individuals being billed MORE with it than the cash price.

Here's one:
“The first bill we got without the insurance was $600. And then the second bill was almost $1,300”

Their response, “You're not eligible for the discount since you are insured”

The billing department says, “The bill was $2,342.14. We billed your insurance. Your insurance only paid $1,078.85

Can I go back to the discount without the insurance?

No, so you're insured, so you're not eligible for the discount.”

So because he has insurance he has to pay almost $700 more, for a total of $1.300… Make it make sense

Then add any monthly payments he's making (as many private sector employees must pay) to that $1300. Something a cash payer doesn't have to pay.

Does not the insurance company send you a statement which displays how much they paid and how much you are obligated to pay such as the co pay ?

So the billing department for the doctors office is giving you a bill amount greater than the co pay ?

Count your blessings. Don't they include a can of Crisco and instructions on how to grab your ankles with every claim?

Do not take this as advice. Every situation is different. Don’t pay.

Medical collections really don’t move a credit score. Can’t garnish wages. Take the ding and don’t pay if you have a medical procedure.

Especially if you have insurance. Everyone gets paid what the expense was. You’re not screwing anyone over.

If you check the OP's account, you'll see ones where people call to schedule tests, and are quoted a price with the receptionist assuming they are paying cash.

Then when they inform the receptionist later, and present insurance, the out of-pocket total cost goes UP
