We have two rescue dogs from two different rescues. Over the last few years I've sent several hundred dollars of dog food to each rescue a few times. During the dog adoption I communicated with each via email and text so I'm easy for them to reach. Neither one of them has ever thanked me for sending any dog food. If I were running a small dog rescue org I'd drop a quick thanks to anyone who contributed. I get that they're small and understaffed, but it would take a few seconds.
