I generally agree with your point of views. Not on this. Keep the court the same. I don't like it at times, but it is the best balance of power overall.
Lower court justices should not have the power they do though. Congress won't agree with Trump in office, but that's where the problem is. You appeal a lower court, your attorney bill just doubled. If you get to SCOTUS, when you have an issue which may not pay out, it's a massive risk that only the super rich and corporations can take.
The other problem is appointing and electing are one in the same essentially. I don't know how you fix that. We have too many lawyers/judges. Adding more is not the solution in my opinion.

It's tempting, because Democrats were talking about packing the court.
But I agree, best left unchanged. And in theory there is a conservative majority at the moment, though Amy Barrett seems untrustworthy.

They're all untrustworthy. You open pandoras box with expanding courts. It will happen at one point though is the problem. I don't know the vote counts it would take but if I was in Congress I wouldn't vote for it even if it was my side that could pack it. Shit precedent to set.
Then decisions will likely take longer as well as they have their staff do the work for them. My sister as an attorney has been to DC multiple times and met with SCOTUS members. They're figure heads. So adding more justices just slows things down and adds more bloat to another agency. Never looked into it, but it's probably $5M per justice for staff and their pay. 9 of them is just fine.
