Valid. At some point you have to assimilate with the existing citizens. I notice this at Indian gas stations (country) in the US. They're on their phone most the time. They've been desensitized with face to face communications. I'll always ask, "how's it going" or something basic. Oh.... you're on the phone.
Not picking on Indians, but they also tend to live in the gas stations they work in.
Also another biggie is music before streaming. 2 people could meet at a concert and connect or become friends over shared music they like. There wasn't much music to choose from so you had to meet other people or you're just sitting in your house.
Modern bars/clubs are also trash. If your culture was okay with drinking you'd meet other people. Doesn't mean you had to be a drunk, but just a couple of beers after a 12 hour shift.
I think places like Fridays, Applebees, Chili's, etc chains ruined the way people meet each other. Then throw in fast food and drive throughs. My town is all old school type places, but I can't stand suburbs. Cities do have their spots, but the burbs are the worst.
I swear the only place to meet random people of different ethnicities is airport bars at this point and could maybe strike up a friendship. I've done it plenty.
Has received more South Asians in 5 years than it has Greeks and Italians (largest previous non-British immigrant groups) in 100 years
I get cruise news when I'm in the mood. I guess Disney and NCL are pulling out of Australia and New Zealand market, completely. That's a good bit of tourism money. I wonder if passenger profile has changed? Mostly Aussies, but now wondering if Indians are increasing on board.
Given the makeup of most cruise ship crews and other passengers they might be having issues with Indians. There might be nice ones out there, but in close quarters I've known them to be filthy. Crews are generally Philippines that deal with guests. Then there could be odd smells.
They always claim it was financial when they move out of ports. Usually has to do with race or ethnicity in that specific region. Hence why Carnival is primary in NOLA and has the most issues with blacks, but they get cheaper port fees and therefor cheaper fares and full ships and that when they suck the money out of you. Eventually though I could see Carnival leaving because of the blacks.
There was no foreign language satellite/streaming internet to watch the news and soaps back in the origin country 24-7
At best there might be a Church or restaurant you could gab in your home tongue once or twice a week.
And the people who came were overwhelmingly in the Greater European culture.
They HAD to assimilate.
