It's a cool looking car that has actual craftsmanship. As GNL said some cars are art. Not my style personally so I'm not a Bugatti fan either. Teslas just aren't good looking cars. Again as others have said it's virtue signaling when the cars are worse for the environment. They're ugly with no utility. So is a Bugatti in my world. I don't care about speed or looks. I need to get shit done and raise a family and not worry about being "hip."

There's not a single model of Tesla that looks good. It's fine they hold up well in accidents. All modern cars do. I promise you if I T-boned any model of Tesla (besides the truck) going 55 there's a death or ambulance coming at minimum. It's just an overpriced car. You've answer that you like acceleration. That's worth it for frankly a stupid thought process. I'm clearly not changing that and it's actually fact, not opinion.

I could make $10M a year and I would have no interest in it or any fancy/expensive car. It's a waste. I'd rather take a trip with the wife and kids 10 times a year before you make up the difference my car costs and has utility. I just did, hence why I'm catching up with this thread. It was a blast. Couples trip with a VRBO in Galena, IL. Sex twice daily. Hot tub. Great restaurant, like actual good food. Hanging with good friends. Either way, sounds like she was drunk given the time. Some people have no business having even one beer and getting behind the wheel. At that time it was likely more than that. This has been known. Maybe not so much in different states as far as the grid goes. EV's make amazing sense for 3 seasons here in IL. Winter... lol hell no. We have the most nukes is why I say that. Some of the largest wind farms. They're getting going with solar as well. We have little coal plants. And supplement with nat gas. But if the car doesn't work in the winter cold there's no point here. Add that 2nd car onto the cost that works when it's cold.

ICE cars just work everywhere. Including the hybrid variety. If people want to accelerate fast and speed and break laws, go ahead. Not worth it to me to drive a car with no utility and as you say worse for the environment. In IL technically from a charging perspective they're pretty green. Just not functional.

Fact is, depending on your grid and if you can't charge, you're up shits creek of bull shit without a car. I can't be in that position. Never will be. Kind of like the vaccine. Not doing it. Not getting an EV in my lifetime. I need security of being able to move about for my family and myself. And for that reason I'll always be out on pure EV's. Accelerating fast doesn't move me. I'd rather pull over on a gravel road and get a BJ.

I'd go a step further. Don't submerge a car... Tesla or any model. But my guess is she just drove safely... lol, with acceleration she couldn't control...

This is why I laugh at the people and the acceleration. Illegal and dangerous. I'll admit I crashed into my own car in my driveway because of the speed of the cart going in reverse. Popped the entire bumper of my car off. Fortunately could clip it back in place and no cosmetic damage. Electric has massive torque and acceleration if you're not used to it.

People think EV's are fun to drive, but they are dangerous. The speed picks up so quick. We're giving unskilled drivers the ability to drive cars 0-60 in seconds. I'm not sure when that became a good idea? Women aren't buying Covettes or similar. They're buying Teslas they have no clue how to handle.

In case no one else mentioned it, the billionairess's Telsa, as all Teslas, rely on electricity and computers to open the doors even from the inside. When the batteries got wet, they stopped working and she couldn't get out. Supposedly, rescue arrived in time to save her but even they couldn't get the doors open.

Can anyone confirm this is true or not?

I doubt this. Hydrogen fuel cells are a very poor way to store energy. First, it's not made by cracking water into oxygen and hydrogen, it's using steam reformation where natural gas is turned into CO2 and Hydrogen in a process. Second, hydrogen is expensive. Third, it's freaking hard to store, that stuff is reactive, very reactive. Put it under pressure on a steel cylinder, and that cylinder will get brittle in time.

Using electrolysis to break water into hydrogen and oxygen seems like a good idea, until you realize it's only 50% efficient. Hydrogen has GREAT energy density in terms of kg/joule - better than just about anything, but it's bulky because it's a large molecule, and as I said, highly reactive so hard to store.

Another problem is compressing it, THAT takes a lot of energy as well. It's like 5 times more expensive than gas per unit of energy as well.

I don't think we will. They've at least admitted they bought them because they're fun to drive and that's about it. They're not green. They're not going to be cheaper than an ICE vehicle of similar or bigger size and utility. They're a pain in the ass to charge if you do any long range driving, which most people do unless they're basement dwellers.

While it sounds like I'm mocking EV drivers, it's just reality. I grew up and am family friends with a golf cart leasing company, one of the largest. They have electric and gas carts. The electric carts are exponentially more money. Some clubs/courses don't want the noise though and will pay the difference to lease the carts for the season. I can't stand gas golf carts during a round myself. But it's more about noise and not performance of the cart.

We've had EV's around since I was a child. Golf carts. They're not practical long term. I inherited my electric golf cart (free). Yes, it is fun to drive. Very zippy for being an IL flatlander. To replace my Lituium battery in 6-10 years I'm looking at $3k by that time. Just for the battery. We are 2-4 years from seeing what battery replacement costs are going to be on EV's. There will be a pretty large percentage that go back to ICE cars once they see the sticker price. It will be $20k, so the car is basically worthless. EV's are the fastest depreciating vehicle on the planet.

Nope, it's got the lowest density of any molecule or atom, that's why it floats. It floats better than helium does, but its highly reactive.

You've seen the periodic table:



On the left, atoms are as big as they can be, and they get smaller going to the right, but they explode in size on the far right. On the far right are the noble. I think only helium is more dense than the element on the far right.

Basically, every element has one more proton than the element preceding it. Picks up neutrons as well, so as you move down, it gets denser and denser.

A chemist or a physicist can explain why better than I can.

Hydrogen's reactivity IS WHERE the energy comes from. Oxidation in particular.

Such a reliance on detailed street data would mean that each time an intersection is changed to a a 4 way stop, for example, that street data would have to be propagated to all self-driving cars in the country.

The work on visual information fed to the machine, and they can recognize stop signs, speed limits, etc. Geolocation data is 1990's technology really.

It's not in the United States so why would anybody care about this? And there's no way to verify it, we can't even be certain the nation.
