$250M seems like a deal. People that don't understand how deals and networking are done just don't understand. It will sound ridiculous but a ballroom is just a tool in the toolbox of diplomacy. All it takes is turning one person or foreign leader at an event to pay for it and more.

Also I think the assumption it's just for Trump is BS. I'd bet he maybe uses the place 5-10 times once completed. It's a clout thing. Senators will use it. Foreigners will use it to show their relationship with the US in negotiations and throw a gala and maybe Melania makes an appearance.

It makes sense. Still critical at times of Trump, but I don't see a problem with this at all.

Anything beyond a state dinner with the closest immediate advisors of a foreign dignitary - less than 100 - could not be held in the WH, it had to be held outside in tents, which does not work for almost half the year due to weather.

It's ridiculous that the WH doesn't have the capacity to host a few hundred people simultaneously.

Also, nobody complained about the Eisenhower Swimming Pool or the Obama Basketball Court.

So, as with all things mysteriously Trumpian, was there another ulterior motive to digging up the East Wing? Perhaps a nidus of underground activities and crimes? Trump states that the military is going to be connected to the construction of the ballroom.

Remember, Trump and Melania have had the White House formally exorcised by priests more than once.
