I remember in the 80s if a crime happened at 3AM, by the 6 o'clock news all the stations, radio or TV, had a description of the perp out for the media.
When security cams were in their infancy and not a fraction of the deployment they have today, when comms were still teletype, Fax, or maybe 300-1200 Baud Modems.
Big or small department, urban or rural, North or South, didn't matter.
NEVER did 24 hours go by without a description unless the victim was dead and there were no witnesses. Even then though, "I saw a slim tall man running in a denim jacket, it was too dark to see more" would probably be out there.
Now it seems a university with 800+ cameras, 100+ of which were worked out by activists two years ago with a map, and a major urban police department are clueless.
