# socialsecurityadministration Now, let me share something uplifting with you. I had a wonderful experience with a US government agency, the Social Security Administration. For 14 years, my monthly pension check was deposit to the American Express Centurion Bank. This bank decided to end personal accounts and only focus on commercial accounts. I had to find a new bank to receive my check. I went to my local Social Security office. I was in and out in 10 minutes. It was efficient and painless. Two days later, my check no longer went to my old bank. It showed up at my new bank. Yesterday, I received a most gracious letter from the Social Security Administration. They took note of the recent change in my receiving bank. They hoped that my experience with this process had been satisfactory.

Thanks for sharing. I have always dreaded having to do business with the government and it’s nice to hear a good outcome!

I have a 100 dollar bill that I got from an ATM that someone cut the blue security ribbon out of with an exacto knife. But only the blue part not the paper part, where the blue security ribbon seems to thread through the bill. Who would do that?
It seems the banks load the ATMs they don't scan and check each bill, but they scan each bill going in, go figure.
So now the only way I can redeem it, is to send it to the Treasury and have them replace it. Which I plan to do.
I even suspect I'll get a cool letter from them, with the reply. Which I plan on framing when I do.
An official letter from the Trump era will be pretty cool on season 85 of Pawn Stars.

Maybe so they could try to figure out what it’s made of so they can duplicate it for better counterfeiting results.

It's not a counterfeit. It actually scans good when ran through a scanner. But the banks policy is if the security strip is missing it has to be sent to the treasury.

edited to realize you were saying perhaps who ever did it, did so to analyze the blue strip. It's done so perfectly without even any over cuts. It makes no sense.

Those bills are usually ordered and delivered to the bank for atm's they un-band them and load them in so they really don't get inspected closely. Most all are serviced by third party providers. Very strange indeed.
