Does anyone know if they count unemployment claims that are DENIED or in the lengthy APPEALS process count in the unemployment data?  I know 6 people personally fired from one company  and 5 of 6 of them were denied unemployment and are in some for of appeal process, not collecting checks.

FYI... All these people were fired for "manufactured" reasons, knowing the employee would have a hard time collecting unemployment.  (ie. taking too long of a lunch break.. (one time, no warning.. fired).    This company laid off 300+ employees last year and are now firing people for shady reasons, to avoid paying severance and risking increased unemployment premiums.

EDD is complicit in all of this also... They are impossible to get a hold of and in my fiancee's case didn't even call her for a phone interview.. just denied her unemployment.  She's now in the appeals process waiting on a hearing date.

So i was just wondering if these data numbers include those denied or in the appeal process?

Since about 450,000 people apply for unemployment each week and we usually
are told only about 400,000 are added to the rolls each month they must be leaving out about
75 percent of the "applicants" who are denied benefits or in some kind of appeals process.
None of these official numbers make much sense and they never define terms or give out details about what any of them mean.
They then say continuing claims are down, but federal emergency unemployment benefits are now at the highest number in all history, 5, 143, 410 and those people have mostly been out of work for more than a year.
The total in unemployment money paid out in 2009 is 140 billion dollars and the state governments have not even started the huge lay offs that will be necessary when they all go bankrupt in the near future.
