Having lived in the Oakland Hills (Montclair District) for over 20 years, (1970s-1990s) I can vouch that the Piedmont School district does more per dollar than any of the neighboring districts in Oakland, Berkeley or San Francisco.
A bit of warning, the people who live above Highland Drive in Piedmont, refer to those streets below them as "Baja Piedmont". Hopefully it's just a joke. If you can get this home for this price, I'd say it's a steal. Here's the listing...

If you call Real Estate Auctions (handling the 1024 Harvard auction) as I did, they will tell you it's a
cash auction. The guy also said to me "either way it's gonna sell for $750k." I'd be curious to see
what it goes for...
Call Real Estate Auctions (they're the ones handling this auction) and they'll tell you, as they told me,
that it's a cash auction. The guy also said "either way it's gonna sell for $750,000." I'm glad he saved
me the time and trouble... though it will be interesting to see what it sells for...
I called the auction house this afternoon, the house did not hit the reserve.
I was really curious about this listing too. Interesting that it did not hit the reserve, thanks for the info. Per realtytrac.com there are a couple of comparable homes in some foreclosure status near it.
Looking at the sales history, looks like it might be worth 400K and quite frankly even that is pushing it.
1400sqft home at 350K is like $250 per sqft. If it's 750K, its $530/sqft.
Is this 85 year old home good enough, worth paying for that much?
I was told the house auctioned for $650k. Buyer has 72 hours to pay in full an do inspections. Seller can take a higher offer.
The house was quite a mess. Basement looked like a 16 year old kid built it out. Kitchen was tiny and a reck. Same goes the dining room. The house on the main floor is probably 1100 to 1200 sqft. It would be fine 2 bed 2 bath house with a lot of work. 2 even think through this you have to get by the stench and filth of the house.
I am surprised this property is still currently listed...maybe the listing price is actually close to the actual value, considering the condition of this house?
Hi,
A public auction is being held on 1/20 at 1pm for this property. It looks very nice, I drove through the neighborhood and it's what I would consider to be a great area, plus it's in a great school district:

The list price was recently dropped to $349,000, which I can only see as a lowering of price to bring in additional bidders.
Questions:
a. What do you guys think a home like this will actually sell for?
b. What is the best way to find out the sale price, short of actually being at the auction myself?
Thanks!
