What a trip. So, all the info sat in an area where someone could just walk off with it?
I am sure they have a dedicated data storage area, right next to garbage dumpster.

Is that the smoking area?
For those people don't know what happened, here's what happened.

Data of 3.3M people who took student loan all across the US have been stolen.
See this letter.

Upon further reading on the internet, it seems like old style break-in, not a hacking. Someone took out a "safe" that contains backup data in the ECMC headquater building, and mysteriously disappeared. They can't tell what kind of portable media the data were in, can't tell whether the data were encryipted. No recordings, no clues, no witneses, no nothing. Free experian credit protection service for 1 full year has been offered.
This sounds like a joke. The fact, your student loan has been handled by companies like this is a joke too.
My wife is one of those 3.3M. She got the letter today.
She took the loan decades ago, paid them off long time ago.
