Harm
I love the first sentence of the article you posted.
“Good news for aging hippies……………..â€
Ok, now here's something weird: it wasn't me who posted that MJ article. Going by IP, it was Surfer-X. For some strange reason (maybe because we both tried posting simultaneously), WordPress got our identities mixed up and posted it under my name.
HARM, sorry, I used my IM to post the link, usually I use Firefox. Seems that the last one to log in was a Senor HARM, President and CEO of HARM-X Industries, LLC GmbH. I have since logged the President out.
This is all from boomers undertaxing themselves now (in their peak earning years) and leaving the interest payments to Gen-X and beyond.
Equivalent degeneracy:
1) Borrow cheap dollars on the house that you think you own and leave it for the next generation to clean up your shit when they discover your Overdosed Body.
2) Borrow cheap dollars on the country that you think you own and leave it to the next generation to clean up your shit and support you old frail a$$ (if you've survived) with SS because you haven't saved a dime.
My latest advice to Casey on his latest thread, where he is crying about a big mean lender not wanting to settle for 70% of the loan value in a short sale, and instead wanting more like 90%. Note, this is kind of funny because, if the story is to be believed, he's just getting rooked by an "investor" who's going to pocket something like 40% return on the short sale while Casey takes the risk & credit hit and the big mean bank takes it in the shorts.
Not surprisingly, the bank objects.
I revise my prior advice to seek an attorney. You should seek psychiatric treatment.
That disposed of, I have some direct advice to this subject: Go for 50% LTV. Disintermediate your investor and handle the negotiations yourself. Tell the counterparties that you’re only going to give them $150K, and that you’re being generous. That strategy seems in keeping with the spirit of your approach.
I do find a lot of similarity between Serin and the *typical* boomer we usually talk about on this blog. They believe they "deserve" obscene profits for relatively little work because of some innate virtue or "boldness."
Randy,
I really liked you advice to Serin this time around. That kid needs analrapist (sorry, can't help myself to an Arrest Development reference) help and he needs it now.
3) Thinking Steve Jobs is cool
Uh... not just boomers. There's also a slew of ipod carrying kids that think that.
2) Doonesbury - does anyone except boomers actually find that crap funny?
Well actually, it's not that bad. Better than Garfield these days. Man has Garfield gotten bad. :(
I'm not a Mac person but I do find Pixar to be cool. Does that make me a Jobs sympathizer?

Second, but then again, I'm an effete liberal. Doonesbury has been cutting through hypocrisy for longer than I've been around. You've gotta respect that even if you have no ear for satire.

I doubt most of the ipod-donning kids know who Steve Jobs is.

Were you one of those people with a Garfield doll suctioned onto your car's rear window? ; )
I really liked you advice to Serin this time around.
Ditto - and RC's post too.
Check out this FB that thinks refinancing into an option ARM is going to free up money so he can pay off other debt. Some people just have no clue!

More like satire that takes itself too seriously. BORING!

Heh... i never had a car until Y2k. By then, that fad was long gone.
Here's something that pisses me off... people who have "Baby on board" stickers.
WTF?
Maybe it's a warning to me that you're going to drive in a very distracted manner?
Or be the like the lady who wrote to the Merc about how she had no choice but to buy an SUV because she got rear ended twice in a year, so she needed a safer car. Right... because it wasn't your fault...
Here's my #1 boomer rant:
"Thank goodness for Prop 13. Heh."
I sat next to one who said that one day at a tech event. I wished I was in Texas or Florida where its ok to shoot people.
has there ever been a better anectode for how retarded the lending industry is?
how much longer can the inmates run the asylum?!
Hiding,
There's no reason to stick to conventional math to get to ten. Feel free to use new math and give as many examples as you'd like.
allah,
Where do you find that $hit? I nearly cracked a rib laughing. That columnist must have incredible restraint not to reply, "You are an idiot, and you are totally screwed!"
eburb,
My guess for the Baby on Board thing is to warn of an distracted driver. I always get extra nervous around one of those cars.
I would like a "JBR at the wheel" bumper sticker. It'll be a nice code for bubbleheads in the know.

Too funny!
I would like a “JBR at the wheel†bumper sticker. It’ll be a nice code for bubbleheads in the know.
Or how about a sticker with Calvin taking a leak on David Lereah? What is up with those 'Calvin pissing' stickers anyway? Or those Jesus-freak fish symbols, or those 'Bad Boy' stickers? My personal favorite are those 'Keep Tahoe Blue' stickers, which are invariably on SUV's. The irony.
eburb,
That prop 13 rant is excellent, definitely dangerous reading for beverage drinkers.
Or if you're in the DC area, the endless numbers of SUVs with OBX (outer banks of the Carolinas) stickers. Just in case you wondered who owns all that over-inflated hurricane bait.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prop_13
basically it puts most of the property tax burden on new property owners.
I hate boomers because of “political correctness.â€
One thing I "hate" is that they usually believe anyone can work to achieve anything. This ignorance of fate is laughable.
@Hiding,
See: NIMBY Laws and California Housing Prices
And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)
I hate Prop 13 because it is anti-progress. It slows down urban renewal efforts and it allows the wrong people to remain in the community.
"What is prop thirteen anyway? (Ignorant NY’er here)."
HARM? M. Cote?
In lieu of personally venturing back to this contentious issue, here's Patrick's page on prop 13 - /prop13/unfair.html And wikipedia's page on prop 13 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)
Boomer hypocrite list
10. Ex-criminal "tough on crime" types
9. Born-again virgin moralizers
8. Whole Foods shoppers
7. Apathetic ex-activists
6. white-flight ex-egalitarians
5. SUV-driving "environmentalists"
4. Neocon chickenhawks
3. Twice-divorced boomers who complain that their kids won't get married/have kids
2. Anti-sprawl mcmansion owners
1. Public school educated prop-13 supporters
I just made my first, modest contribution to Mr. Serin's blog:
Wow.
First, you became the new Internet poster boy for reckless amateur RE bubble speculators. Now, you’re also a poster boy for tech-job offshoring. Congratulations!
Some suggestions on how to complete your 21st Century Trend Trifecta:
–molest a Congressional pageboy
–get into a public brawl with Paris Hilton or [insert popular gangsta rapper]
–get a no-bid Halliburton contract but don’t complete any work
–start a Nigerian Internet scam
–become a “person of interest†in some high-profile missing white woman investigation
Good luck to you!
SUV-driving “environmentalistsâ€
Yes. I agree.
I am a borderline anti-environmentalist but I am eco-friendly enough not to drive an SUV.
Public school educated prop-13 supporters
LOL
Peter P,
Have you tried any local farmer's markets? If you don't see it, ask around people who grow other green leafy vegetables.
If I ever get that Pleasanton community garden plot, I'll plant a row for you.
what about prius drivers? you can smell their sanctimonious stench from a mile away.
"for the children"
i'm not against the prius, but what it has come to represenet.
fwiw i take bart to work.
If I ever get that Pleasanton community garden plot, I’ll plant a row for you.
Thanks! ;)

By the time I wake up on weekends, the farmer's market in Mountain View is usually gone. :(
