Looks like they've been reading the headline news here at patrick.net and have decided not to buy or wait indefinitely to do so.
Things have gotten so incredibly gloomy these past couple of weeks it isn't even funny. Collapse/deflationary pressures are literally boiling over right now, and there is even mainstream talk (Breakfast with Dave) that there never was any recovery (there wasn't):

Summer IS the home buying season.
That's probably why now that it is nearly over, such as it was, they are scared.
Everyone who was going to buy got suckered in during the tax credits (that or they felt reassured it was the bottom and time to buy).
Plus the economy may be about to roll over again....
Doesn't look like many homes are being sold this summer? Got a long fall and winter before the next Spring buying season... lots of time for price cuts.
