Please read the above article it explains it all. The pocket veto basically allows President Obama to veto a bill by "holding it in his pocket" if Congress is no longer in session and less than 10 days have passed, essentially "running out the clock" on the bill. Rather than a regular veto, which can be overridden by a 2/3rds majority, the pocket veto can't be overriden because Congress doesn't have a chance to vote.

The problem is that even though Congress is out of session, the Senate is still in "pro forma" session (having meetings), and if Oct. 12th rolls around and they are still in "pro forma" session, the bill becomes law. Obama will probably just say "too bad, we didn't think this would happen", and the banksters get their way, fraudulent documents can be used to foreclose on anyone they want to.

This is starting to look ugly. If this thing gets through on a technicality, I expect in 6 months we might start to see some good old fashion torches and pitchforks action in Congress...

Whew, just read this: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/10/08/presidential-memorandum-hr-3808

The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release October 08, 2010
Presidential Memorandum--H.R. 3808

It is necessary to have further deliberations about the possible unintended impact of H.R. 3808, the "Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act of 2010," on consumer protections, including those for mortgages, before the bill can be finalized. Accordingly, I am withholding my approval of this bill. (The Pocket Veto Case, 279 U.S. 655 (1929)).

The authors of this bill no doubt had the best intentions in mind when trying to remove impediments to interstate commerce. My Administration will work with them and other leaders in Congress to explore the best ways to achieve this goal going forward.

To leave no doubt that the bill is being vetoed, in addition to withholding my signature, I am returning H.R. 3808 to the Clerk of the House of Representatives, along with this Memorandum of Disapproval.

BARACK OBAMA

THE WHITE HOUSE,
October 8, 2010.

Looks like we are out of the woods on this one... Glad we elected Obama.

Yes, I agree that Obama did the right thing here, for whatever reason.

I find the whole concept of electronic notarization to be a really bad idea. For important things, I want a human notary to watch me sign. With a pen.

I don't see why Obama still can't veto it within the 10 day window.

But as a renter, I don't know if this is a good deal or not. 10% of the fraud was committed by consumers 10% by mortgage intermediaries, and 10% by the banks. Plus 20% by the ratings agencies, and 20% by Wall Street greedheads playing both sides of these deals. And 10% by the Fed for sitting on its ass, 10% by the Executive, and 10% by Congress.

Funny, that list started with "90% by consumers" but got longer as I started added parties. What a clusterf*ck. We're not out of the woods now, we'd be LUCKY to still just be in the big bad woods. This is worse than that. TNX at 2.38 is a signal of doom.

Alright, so we have established that the Veto has been executed properly. Good.
