One problem I imagine is the vast, broad differences in 'a 3/2 in a specific area'. I for one am very picky about architecture, lot, how the house sits on the lot, materials, etc. Although that just means you might get a lot of queries that result in 'no dice'.
And as Ellie said, there are FSBOs already. Unfortunately they are seen by the 'establishment' i.e. "REAL-TORS" (insipid pronounciation correction) as 'scabs' and therefore do all they can to give them a bad rap.
Well I don't mean a fsbo style site. This would be more of BYH site. I am sure one of you guys are bright enough to give some input. I myself would like to browse thru some no BS homes with the real bottom dollar listed with all the legality stuff listed and twenty pictures.
I heard all the REO's are off the market?
True buyers are looking to get the most house for the lowest price. It's kinda like poker, what are his cards, is he bluffing? Only a fool would show all of there cards when buying a house. You could tell a Realtor your looking for a house in X price range, but your maximum number your willing to spend could be a lot higher. Pretty much all big ticket items use this kind of bargaining, weather it's buying a house, car, negotiation a salary for a new job, hiring a contractor to put an addition on your house, etc. There is no Walmart type pricing for any of these things.

Iwish I had the drive to do this, but I would like to know what your (weekly readers) remember those) would think about a site that would be the opposite from what we have now. Meaning..........Say you are a person that wants to purchase a home and A. Have good Credit (real good !) a down payment and a pre approval letter from their bank and...drum roll...... the willingness to move forward ASAP. B. Be a cash buyer willing to move forward ( meaning immediately)
The website would be for those people to post up what they are looking for and what they are willing to spend for in a certain area etc. No screwing around with lying Realtors and basically what we have all been thru at one time or another.
Sellers could put on the site their home and the price they are willing to take........the site could be open to banks (must stipulate) Realtors (must stipulate) and private home owners.
In simple words a buyers website....Ok Devils advocate's/naysayers, lets hear from you.
We have willing buyers so lets see what you have to offer. This of course is for banks/realtors and home owners who want to sell and are tired of the games.
