Yes they are so very "independent" and "mavericky".

"Although some Tea Party leaders have tried to stress the movement’s independence from the Republican Party, supporters of the Tea Party movement overwhelmingly identified with the Republican Party and reported voting for Republican candidates. Eighty percent of Tea Party supporters were Republican identifiers or independents who leaned toward the Republican Party and 54 percent were strong Republican identifiers. And Tea Party supporters definitely were not political newcomers—93 percent reported voting in the 2008 presidential election and 96 percent of these Tea Party voters cast their ballots for John McCain."

Is this really news to anyone?

The Tea Party is a group of Republicans who don't want to be called Republicans, because Republicans got a bad name during the Bush administration.

Nevermind that these people support 99% of Bush's policies -- just don't call them Republicans.

I think it was Newt who called the Tea Party the "militant wing of the GOP".

It's become a place to shuffle off the crazy aunts & uncles, so the main party can still attempt to cast itself as "mainstream". See only Tea Partiers would think it's DANDY and defensible to dress like this in your off-hours from politicking.

Rich Iott, 3rd from left, Grand Old Teapublican Party candidate in Ohio.

It's no secret that the Tea Party was Hijacked by the Republican party, and marginalized by the mainstream media, no sooner than they started. Free thinking Independents are a threat to both parties.

With Whacko's and all, the disenfranchised marginalized, diminished middle class, the disregarded, and the guys being given the Bill for Washington's Corporate Dinner Date. Are growing in numbers every day, that group encompasses everyone from Mensas to Bafoons.

At this point, that group will Vote the Craziest mugger Fugger in the Lot, we've been trying for years to elect some our more brightest, but that was "Wasting a Vote".

I suspect the next political force both parties will be forced to recon with, running on wanting "Clean up Washington" will make Sarah Palin look like Hillary Clinton's, finishing school Professor.

As Ghandi (and probably someone else put it even before him) said: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

Conservative protests were largely ignored in Washington with the so-called "mainstream" media burying any protests in the back page, at best, or underreporting the turnouts. So a million people protest against abortion would be reduced to about 200K and dropped on the back page and written up as: "200K anti-women protesters turn out in DC."

Conservative journalists or even for that matter, politically neutral ones would be quietly blackballed if they tried to get work in the major networks and newspapers. Since there were a lot of liberals out there (more on that term in a minute), this strategy worked quite well until recently. Until the internet, there wasn't much choice for consumers to get their news other than Dan Rather's MSWord documents of the day or regurgitation of NYT editorials.

Then... cableTV exploded along with the web. And worse, Foxnews. How DARE a channel publish RIGHT wing "extremist" news? THAT wasn't cleared by the NYT!

So the tea partiers got coverage. So the next strategy: laugh at them. Use a vulgar sexual slur (while crying that homosexuals are victims of slurs and bullying even as they use such slurs on their own. But believing a holy marxist religion means that the rules don't apply to you.)

Anyways, that doesn't seem to have worked that well either. So now... make up the conspiracy that, gasp, there might be foreign money! And RICH people donating to the tea partiers!

Of course, George Soros giving money to the left was ok. Oh, and Acorn's voter fraud with illegals along with subsidies from the federal government. But that's different.

I guess the ultimately flattery is that they've moved from ignoring, to mockery, to primitive accusations. Is that the best they can do?

Folks: Lets keep a copy in our pockets for quick reference when speaking with our ... TEA PARTY 'friends' on the other side known as independents:

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden. You didn't get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the filthy rich, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they had no health insurance.

You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick...Oh, Hell No!!

I've been voting Nader since 96. I've had full bore effect of every Mental Wedgie the ass bags in Washington has dished out for the last two decades.

I just finished reading "Boiling Mad: Inside Tea Party America"

It's pretty clear from all the quotes in the book that the carefully unspoken anger unifying the Tea Party is fear that they will be taxed to provide health care to black people. They assume that a black president will be just as biased in favor of black people as they themselves are biased against black people. (OK, he's half black, but that's not how they think.)

So suddenly the incoherent messages like "lower taxes and get government hands off of Medicare" can be parsed and understood. What they really mean is they are afraid of being taxed to provide services to fellow citizens they don't like, but still demand those same services for themselves. The assumption is that black people don't pay taxes.

The newfound concern with the federal debt is mostly concern about spending their money on health care for blacks. They don't object nearly as much to the massive bank bailouts because there's no racial component there. If most bankers were black, it would be very different.

They claim "Obama isn't listening to us" but what they mean is that they don't expect a black man can possibly understand the depth of their antipathy to black America.

The claim that Obama is foreign born is just a last ditch desperate attempt to delegitimize a black president without openly mentioning the word black.

They claim Obama is a Muslim to find a politically acceptable way to stir up worry about his motives. I don't like Islam at all myself, but I just don't see anything very Islamic about Obama except a middle name he didn't even get to choose. He's certainly no fanatic.

They claim "Democrats are arrogant" because Democrats are forcing them to share and be fair, though being forced to share for the military doesn't bother them. The standard Tea Party line is that social services should be provided by charity. What they mean is that they want the right to refuse to care for their fellow citizens on whatever discriminatory basis they like.

They discovered a love for the Constitution because it makes little mention of social services beyond "promote the general welfare", because it was written by white men, and because it originally defined black people as worth 3/5 as much as white people.

But I think all this trouble is self-limiting anyway. If all those angry old Tea Partiers really got rid of Social Security and Medicare, they would quickly die off in huge numbers...

I couldn't help but notice that you used "they" over and over again. Who exactly is "they?" Does "they" speak for everyone, or just for "they?"

I'm not a Tea Party member and have never attended any of their events, but I do know a few of these people and they (there's that word again) don't resemble your "they" in the slightest. I also did a Google search to see what exactly their platform is. The funny thing I found is that, other than the slightly biased (wink, wink) NAACP site, I found absolutely nothing regarding even a hint of racism. I also checked the reviews on Amazon on the book you read. Funny thing there as well. Not one word mentioned about racism in the reviews.

I think you seriously need to check yourself to see if Clarence has taken over your body. Your post sounds as crazy and "mad" as Clarence's "You Didn’t Get Mad …. blah, blah, blah” post.
