This is an idea that has weighed heavily on my mind for some time. The 500 pound gorilla in the room that few people want to talk about is the cost to society brought on by fat people. Maybe the reason for this is the fact there are so many of you out there (72+ million). Numerous diseases and ailments are directly attributed to obesity, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, etc. The toll this is taking on our health care system is astronomical. Why not have a tax on overweight people in order to help motivate them to exercise and eat healthy foods?

We could set something up along the lines of the weigh stations for trucks. Fat people (I’m working on the statistics that would constitute “fat” … height/weight/age etc.) would be required to “weigh in” once a month. If they aren’t losing weight, they would pay a tax calculated on the basis of the extent of their obesity. With 72 million fat people out there, just imagine the amount of tax revenues this would generate along with huge reductions in health care costs and insurance.

You should switch to your Abe voice, so you can amplify the echo chamber effect.

I hope I'm not hitting too close to home for you. Nothing personal. Those Happy Meals are going to kill you.

I appreciate your concern. Run 10K's to keep in decent shape, although I'm not a triathlete or anything radical. Unlike some of my Tea Party friends, I get regular physicals very sad one of them died last year of a heart attack he hated doctors. I haven't eaten at a Mickey D's in years but that's mostly because there's not one on my side of town. Now you've got me Jonesing for an Egg McMuffin though I never liked their regular menu only breakfast items:

Why do you liberals always have to get involved in my personal life. If I want to be fat, why can't I? Why are you going to force me to go weigh in once a month? First you want to force healthcare on me, now this?! Yet another tax too. Geesh! Can't liberals like Ray just leave me alone!

7   Done!   2010 Oct 28, 3:03am

Greed and notion that any schmuck with a syringe in their hand is a 70K + job, is what is burdening the Health care system.

Employer based healthcare/ and or indentured insurance under Obama care, while those people/patients as 401K'ers then short the very system by investing heavily in the Health Care sector. The health care sector already not short on money, nor under staffed by no means. Then has to spend that money on more doctors and higher wages for the existing staff.

And the Obamacare notion that these companies have to spend more in patient care is pure Bull Crap, only a triple Decker douche could buy. Give these companies money then tell them they can't have the profits they are all ready enjoying. They will just raise premiums, so they can pay doctors nurses, medicine, pharms, hospitals, more money. It's a numbers game, if these companies get any chunk of the action, they'll game it no matter how big or small.

And what do you suppose these Obese people eat, instead of what do you think they are eating.

They are only eating from a sample of 90% of what ever is sold in a grocery store, they are packing on Weight gaining hormones from the meat and poultry, and ingesting high concentrations of HFCS, how can they not get fat?

You need to be upper middle class to afford edible food that doesn't contain all of this crap.

You are absolutely right. Most of what is available at the typical supermarket is processed artificial junk. The ability to obtain healthy, natural food is a challenge. We typically buy only organic food (which admittedly is far more expensive) and shop the local farm markets in our area, which fortunately, there are quite a few. The question is: how important is your health? If you continue to put garbage into your body, don't be surprised when you end up with poor health and a lot of issues that helps to make the medical community rich.

This isn't a liberal concept. This plan would allow you to be fat if you wanted to be. You'd just have to pay an extra tax on the extra load you're carrying around.

Sounds pretty similar to Obamacare - you don't have to get health insurance, but if you don't you will be monetarily penalized (aka taxed). Taxing people isn't a liberal concept? That's news to me. Intervening in people's personal affairs isn't a liberal concept? What have Libertarians been complaining about all of these years then? How come Repubs refer to our current admin as creating a nanny-state? Just admit it Ray, you're a liberal at heart!

11   seaside   2010 Oct 28, 4:40am

Let's tax fats, but should we define "fat" first before imposing tax on them? What's the definition of taxable fats and what's not? Any tax breaker for low income, widowed, retired or handicapped fats? LOL.

So, government called Queen Latifa for extra tax for being fat. She will say, F--k you. I ain't fat. I am a lovely big lady. Jesica Alba happened to be next to her, said, yeah, you are. QL will go like, shut up, you skinny little bitch. LOL. This would be hilarious. LOL.

I thought Ray/Abe would hate government intrusion into personal life choices. Now you propose a tax structure specifically targetting certain Americans. Astounding how you reach for Libtard tax tools when you feel like it.

Let's have a tax on registered Republicans since we're on this taxation bandwagon. They definitely cost the general population more than they put in. One need only compare the federal outlay versus revenue from red & blue states for proof. They need to start carrying their load, or learn to slim down too. I really can't stand the idea of people "getting fat" on my tax dollars, then not only costing me money but making dangerous choices that impact MY daily life:

13   ch_tah   2010 Oct 28, 7:03am

Vicente your comments reminded me that the "fattest" states are in the SE, the Repub base. http://calorielab.com/news/2010/06/28/fattest-states-2010/
So, Ray's brilliant plan would disproportionately tax Republicans. Yet more proof that Ray is a liberal in disguise.

14   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 28, 7:53am

Don't forget this tax plan would help everyone; Republicans, Democrats & Independents. I think it's a terrific tax because it would actually accomplish something by encouraging people to get healthy. If enough fat people refuse to lose weight, it might prove to be so successful that we could possibly do away with the progressive income tax. With 72 million fat people out there, that seems very possible.

No you're saying the Answer is Bend over Punks, we've polluted and over developed all of our farm land, and the if tasteless fruits and rotten vegetables imported from Chile don't suit you, then Shop at Whore Foods(TM) where a pound of edible Cabbage will set you back a hundred bucks. Or fork out the premiums to the Health Care regime and pay the Fat Ass tax. Long live Monsanto and Nestle!

In three days, the Tea Baggers are going to turn shit upside down.

sniff sniff!!! Smell that? It's the year of Bubba coming down on you.

Interesting, isn't that what liberals always say - "this tax will help everyone." Keep talking, your true colors are finally coming out.

No need. I'm quite sure under your fascist regime, I wouldn't be taxed. Even though I wouldn't be taxed, I don't want you and your liberal buddies trying to control every element of my life.

20   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 28, 10:18am

Not every element. Just your weight.

I think this would be better than singling people out for being “fat”.
Also - it should cost less to go to a gym, and people should get credits for being healthy - there needs to be an incentive in there somewhere.

Maybe a combination of the two; a lower tax on fat if you prove you're really trying and a tax credit to be applied towards a health club. Of course, they'd have to prove they are using the health club.

23   Bap33   2010 Oct 28, 1:56pm

anal sex by deviant males causes health issues and death too ..... incase it matters to be talking about how to make folks healthy.

24   marcus   2010 Oct 28, 2:02pm

Whoa there buddy, I don't know how Ray would "weigh" that.

26   ch_tah   2010 Oct 29, 12:23am

Instead of sending the fat people to health clubs, why don't we sent them to "camps" where they can "concentrate" on their weight? We could go around to each house and see if there are any fat people there. If there are, we yank them from their families and put them in the camps. At these camps, we could force them to run and run and then run some more. They wouldn't get to eat much if anything. The ones who can't cut it, don't make it out of camp. This whole plan just keeps getting better and better Ray.

27   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 29, 1:46am

tah ... I think you're taking it a little bit too far. I'm feeling slightly uncomfortable with "concentration camps" for fat people. Let's just stick to the Fat Tax idea.

28   ch_tah   2010 Oct 29, 2:13am

Come on Ray, don't start using logic now. Let's go all the way with this baby.

29   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 29, 2:35am

Back when I was a kid they had a thing called "Fat Boy Camps" where the parents would pay to send little tubby off for a few weeks in the summer to work off all that fat. Maybe that's what you had in mind? It seemed like a good idea back then. I think the ACLU shut them down. A lot of those ACLU types were fat kids that grew up to be fat liberals ... at least that appears to be the case.

Speaking of that, the military last year was considering "fat camps" prior to basic training because it was getting so many out-of-shape applicants who needed remedial work.

Obviously the liberal pinko traitor spies were working hard to infiltrate the military en masse and drag it down. Amazing the Army hasn't figured it out yet.

Did you even read your article? You do realize it's a court in BRAZIL, right? Other than that, what's the point of your post? It shows rewarding obesity - the antithesis of your point.

Do you fall down a lot Ray?

33   ch_tah   2010 Oct 29, 3:13am

Or was your point that more people should be suing these evil corporations for making them fat? Your liberal bias is striking.

34   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 29, 3:14am

It shows the court in Brazil penalizing McDonalds for feeding this poor worker all that fat producing food. How was he to know he'd gain all that weight? Kind of like a fat tax on McDonalds.

35   ch_tah   2010 Oct 29, 3:39am

Wow, so you're ok with our food source being controlled by pseudo-taxing corporations for serving fatty foods? It seems like in your perfect world, McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, etc. wouldn't exist. All that should exist is Whole Foods, and they can only serve healthfoods. Interesting take on things. I don't think you could go any further left.

How does your buddy Abe feel about these views?

36   RayAmerica   2010 Oct 29, 3:53am

I'm not for taxing donuts, only the people that get fat eating them. Whole Foods is my favorite place to shop.

Yes we should get Ray and his Big Brother right onto this Red State Obesity Epidemic.
Perhaps they should get their own commission to tackle it. I think we need paratroopers
for Mississippi though, look at it!

You just said you are ok with a lawsuit against McD's - "kind of like a fat tax." That's a penalty against McD's, not the fat person. And the lawsuit actually rewarded the fat person.

39   Done!   2010 Oct 29, 4:59am

What Liberals don't understand is, the voting public is at critical mass. That is all we've got.
It's an even dead heat of two Idiot factions tied dead nuts even.
Though, the Voting public is still only 20 or 30% of the people in the U.S., that other 70% that aren't involved, they trust and leave politics up to those that follow it. And thus far, they haven't been affected to terribly.
You start directly screwing with these people where you want to inject your policy on them and enslave them into Corporate bondage.

That other 70% that don't vote, they Riot, and Rebel.

marcus says

thats an easy one, the invaders. you see, the deviants, if legal citizens, are Americans and belong here as much as you or I. Invaders cheat all non-invaders by accessing America's great bounty unfairly.

Also, American sexual deviants don't cheat American non-deviants from having normal sex (since sex act is the major difference). American adult male sexual deviants are not breaking laws in many states when they perform their acts of deviant nature. American sexual deviants are a favorite taget of some invader based street gangs.
