I don't watch these things since it's a waste of time, and always very boring and self-serving. Even if I liked whomever the president was I wouldn't watch. The only presidential speech I ever liked was a SNL presidential speech parody when Jimmy Carter was president and the speaker of the house and senate were in the background nodding off.

I thought he already did ever damn thing, in his first 100 days. Remember, he got a Nobel Peace prize just for showing up.

He needs to work some songs into his variety act though, his monologue shtick is getting old.

That's Obama, the hardest working Man in show business.

I wasn't expecting much, but still came away uninspired. He started strong, but the whole speech seemed to slide downwards as it droned on about not much in particular.

I'd like to think that the divided congress will lead to more "working across party lines" but I know better. By St. Patrick's day, (if not sooner) it will be politics as usual. Working together with "the other guy" seldom gets you re-elected, and in this 24-7-365 twitter, facebook, cable news, always plugged in world we live in, its about raising more money than you give away to your constituents, not about the good of the people as a whole. One mans pork is another persons "vital" pet project.

For real change, we almost need a generational shift, not simply a change in which party is controlling the house. Not enough young (sub-40) people are in politics at any level.

It would actually be pretty awesome if we completely restructured government and rewrote the tax code.
Not that congress will ever pass such legislation.

You do realize that the UN is not the government, and has no actual power to do anything, right?
