Same here. I bought my S b/c I wanted it. It had nothing to do with the environment. I install solar, and it has nothing to do with the environment. Why do people think we do these things b/c of the environment? It makes sense from a financial POV. That’s all.

We qualify for $7.5k state rebate and $7.5k Federal based on our 2022 tax returns. Been thinking of buying a Model Y just because of this. Net cost after rebate and credit is $35.5k for it, but we don’t need another car. 😂

Yeah - I have lost alot of my gains in the past month. Market and short sellers trying to punish Elon with all the FUD. Being a longterm holder of TSLA is not for the faint of heart. TSLA would have to drop another 40% for me to be underwater. Great buying opportunity!

I think the market will be up moderately by end of year, 5%-15%, basically inflation adjustment. The US will be saving/gaining a lot of cash from deals, tariffs, DOGE etc. at the expense of an average labor market/UE and continued tighter capital conditions

I generally have no issue with Tesla as a product for 95% of people. I just can't do anything with a Tesla and I live out in the cornfields of IL. I also am 100% uncomfortable with a computer driving the car.

In rural areas there are situations where no sensor or computer could stop a major accident. The biggie, at least for me is blown stop signs with speeding cars. If the sensors can see through corn, eh maybe. But they have no utility besides moving a few people and groceries. I need a big SUV and worst case 10 min charge time to full battery and 400 miles with a trailer. Not happening.

If you're not comfy with a computer driving the car, better not fly on any commercial airplanes. It's over 95% autopilot driven. Could be 100% autopilot but Joe Six-pack ouldn't handle it. Sheesh, SpaceX launches and recovers Dragon spacecraft with humans aboard to the Space Station 100% on Autopilot. Astronauts trust the systems 100%.

The US government spends $7T per year. Elon first promised to find $2T, then revised it to $1T, then revised it to $150B and out of the wall of receipts he posted only $60B appears to be more or less valid savings. So the whole supposedly giant waste, fraud and abuse in the US government amouned to 0.85%. Would anyone even care if they found that they wasted 0.85% of their spending on some bullshit? Would a guy spending $100K per year consider finding $850 in his sofa cushions a major life-changing event?

I think DOGE reports fraud, waste and abuse, but has no authority to recover or stop practices. That takes executive action, such as executive order, or, such as when Rubio was placed in charge of USAID. He had the positional authority to fire people and stop payments at the Agency level. Cuts and firings are happening at HHS, Education, DOD - just about every cabinet level post.

It'll take Legislative action to codify what has been discovered into law to prevent further abuse. Even then, continued Republican domination at the ballot box will have to happen to really cement the changes. I hope for Vance for 8 years, and folks like AOC and the Squad, and Senator Murkowski, ousted, for starters.

To continue the decent into Banana Republic status, the State of Washington implemented a tax on EV credits, but only for manufacturers that exceed 25000 units per year (so this only affects Tesla).

Not to be out done, the State of New York is trying to revoke the license of Tesla dealerships throughout the State.

I totally get why Leftists are pissed about DOGE by losing their gravy train and influence, but I can't understand why anyone Right of Center or Libertarian would be so critical - even if Musk overpromised at the start. The Democrats are doing everything they can through the courts to stop DOGE and it has only been a few months.

Even when Musk steps back, DOGE isn't going away during Trump's term and will hopefully continue to shine a light on our government's massive spending abuses to continue to build the case of transparency and reform.

Musk is the latest incarnation of Steve Jobs. Reality distortion is the method - sometimes it gets people to transcend themselves like in a cult and deliver really good shit. Most times it fails miserably.

I don't think we're all that way. I have no issue with Musk. I just won't buy his cars. They're city cars and provide no utility for my needs. Not even debatable if you lived my life or my wife's. There're not practical cars for 20% at least of the population. Nothing to do with the person.

The problem with overdoing joist/roof insulation is moisture at least here in IL. Any moisture in the roof from winter or summer and you've got mold. It's not 60 is all I'll say for now. That's high. Not building a sauna house, though I do want a sauna.
