Good piece, but for the massive blind spot that because they also run government, your social security is already long gone. The grassroots attempt to get money back from SS and put it into the Stock Market misses the point that the market is the rigged other side of the same crappy rip-off. It is a Ponzi Scheme that makes Madoff look like Tinker Toys.
There once was something called the American dream, and it really existed for those who experienced freedom and less systematic parasitism. But it's been largely gone, co-opted by those who feed off the workers producing wealth, and those with the knowledge to properly organize and create wealth. So many jobs today are merely cogs of the system created to support the BS fantasy, producing nothing but paperwork compliance and consumption of the national wealth of seedcorn.
One thing the market has going for it, however, is that the bankers and government keep printing money out the wazoo, and that keeps going into the stock market and bidding up prices higher and higher. That's happening with commodities as units of currencies are globally inflated while production of commodities is ever increasingly hampered by the parasites burdensome skimming. Prices are going up up up, which was the catalyst in Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, etc. But if you invest in them to protect your $$ purchasing power, you've done well... so long as you have an extra dollar to invest. Meanwhile, the average man using a savings account at the bank is totally screwed since the Federal Reserve is artificially depressing interest rates (by printint money) in order to funnel trillions to support the insolvent banking sector and government sector. So small savers are totally screwed, while those with $$ to go into the commodity and stock markets are in for a ride of uber volatility since valuations are entirely dependent upon ever increasing $$ supply flooding into the system, and buyers keep pre-discounting future flow of money... back off the $$ printing and it collapses as equilibrium of $$ printing seeps into other areas of the economy.
That is the problem with all these bailouts, and both the R's and the D's reliance on Big Govt Banking / the Fed Reserve system. But lefties will never give up the Fed since it allows them to legally counterfeit $$'s out the wazoo, which is a huge redistribution scheme partially financing government. It is a hidden tax paid by everyone using $$'s.
We are soooooo screwed, and while individuals have been pitted against one another to divide and conquer, those with the power -- unions, Congress, wall street, uber corporations, will loot loot loot while, stirring the pot to war within itself, while holding the system not at fault.
The answer is freedom and liberty.

Grassroots? Not at all. That was a campaign organized and paid for Wall Street, hungry for yet more commissions on non-productive work at our expense. And willing to let people lose their last scrap of security.
I agree with you about the Federal Reserve, though you should mention the other reason for its existence: to bail out the biggest banks and ensure that our owners never suffer a loss no matter what they do.
The answer is freedom and liberty.
I think the answer is awareness that welfare for the poor is tiny compared to welfare for our owners: Federal Reserve inflation, bank bailouts, lower tax rates on our owners than on everyone else (via ultra-low capital gains and dividend rate), tax write-offs, corporate subsidies, loopholes, etc. We have a democracy at least in theory, and our owners very afraid of democracy, because we might make them pay their fair share.

Just in case You Tube supresses it again, here are the best three minutes of George Carlin's career. This is a quote for discussion, which is fair use.

Note that "critical thinking" means not just accepting what you're told, but looking for mistakes and finding better answers on your own. Lots of people have never seen critical thought defined, because schools don't teach it. Schools teach obedience to our owners.
