I think he has done a fairly good job (not excellent -- I'd give him about a B grade). People have to keep in mind that the prime minister with a few exceptions, is a rotating door job. The bureaucrats have most of the power in this country.
What could be worse would be having some of the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) buffoons in there. The LDP are the ones who were taking bribes from TEPCO and allowing inpections to be missed or be merely cursory. ONe more point to remember is that by many standards, despite the name, the LDP is actually a very conservative party.

I was listening to Taro Kono on some TV station and was impressed with his English ability. I see he went to Keio so it's not surprising I guess. Doesn't seem like a bad dude, kinda like Koizumi I guess.

Yeah, the PM isn't a President, the Vice Ministers (that rise from the ranks) run the bureaucracy.

I read a survey in Japan and I can't believe that support of the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) is as high as the DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan). The names are confusing, but the Liberal Democratic Party is conservative in all of the bad ways and none of the good. They are the party that was complicit when Tepco's power plants were being approved and inspecitions were slipped. Regardless of the view on nuclear power, the LDP contributed to this.

Ishihara got elected again as the Tokyo governor (Tokyo is actually a prefecture so this is a governor not mayor title). I was disappointed. The guy is very racist.... I guess people felt Tokyo needed the stability of the same governor.

I hope Kan can at least stay in power for 4-5 more months. Then the wheel rotates...

His term is coming to and end soon. The next PM won't be as good, likely.

Wow, who says in a crisis leadership emerges?

Sometimes it really doesn't.
