Depends on the type of contract you're on.

I wonder how many of these defence contractors claim to be for "smaller government".

It's puzzling how some contractors are affected and others or not, this is a direct quote from one of our managers:

"I know all of you have been getting questions about the possibility of a government shutdown and what it means to us as contractors. Yesterday I met with the CO and COTR and asked the question. Basically as contractors we are exempt. We have a funded contract in place and will continue to work...."

So basically a government shutdown will not affect me personally, at least not immediately. I have a good week worth of work to do, even without Federal people around to supervise me. However, there will come a point where without the delivery of new equipment and the federal people to approve new purchases and travel, I will run out of stuff to keep me busy. I don't know if they are then going to pay me to sit around and keep my seat warm.

@TechGromit

I hope you do get paid at some point (if not on time). If things were rough and we were neighbors, I'd invite you over for dinner during the tough times! :-)
