"Obama invoked the successes of immigrants who went on to found Google Inc. (GOOG), Intel Corp. (INTC) and Yahoo! Inc. as proof that keeping the country open to foreign talent leads to job creation. Quoting Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates, Obama said the U.S. can’t remain competitive in the global economy by excluding talent."

For many reasons I do not believe in amnesty. And of course personally I really do not like the fact that POTUS attributed successes of those who came here legally and founded great corporations like MSFT GOOG INTC, to the destitute types that jump Mexican border illegally.

On top of that adding 11 million to welfare system could break the camels back.

Not to mention Bill Gates is not an illegal, nor a Mac 10 toting thug.

This is the oldest most played Lie that every President has promised if reelected in the last 30 years. Every two termer has promised that lie. Let's hope Louis Lopez is a little smarter this time. And will vote for some one who can really help them... back across the border.

Besides nothing for nothing, most of the "good", "Hard working" and "Up standing" illegals I know, went back to their country. We've gone so far down hill, that their economy back in their country, is only marginally worse. And Since they couldn't bring them selves to sling Coke and kill innocent people, they hung it up and went back. Where they can have drivers licensee, drive, and work and live like a human being.

Bush castrated the illegals in this country further criminalizing their existence. Every aspect of their life is a crime, now that they can't drive, work, bank and live legal in this country. So ask your self, in the last five years, what caliber of Illegal immigrants do you really is left?

All of the good ones went home, he's about to unleash the biggest legal crime syndicate on the US.
They are already established, now he's giving them permission to move their operation around American freely and legally.

Wow, Obama sounds more and more like Reagan every day. (And from me that's not a compliment.)

Republicans worry about how legislation will directly affect them.
Democrats don't think about ill effects legislation may cause, somebody else is paying for it after all.

Life long Democrats is a Rich mans game.

Idealism is for the Young and the Poor, they believe buying a bumper sticker at a Post Modern Mall developed in a nature preserve, will somehow save the Panda. They think that Education is the failing of society, and the poor are a natural resource. When they turn 30 if they are not financially stable.
By the time they are 40 they acquire conservative views and are Republican voters.

How old did that Birth Certificate say he is?

True, true. But, although Reagan sucked nuts, he seems downright rational and liberal next to today's nutters.

Give me f@$%ing break. Obama did not equate those that commit crimes in the US to those that contribute to the success of the country.

This is just your stupid spin.

Obama has actually done more to kick out people that commit crimes more than any president before him.

Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services reports Wednesday August 4, 2010 that the US is actually kicking out more illegal aliens than George W. Bush did.

The Obama Administration has concentrated its efforts to boot out “criminal aliens” meaning those illegally in the country who also have committed other crimes.

During the first nine months of the fiscal year, the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University, using Immigration and Customs Enforcement data, counted 136,714 “criminal aliens” deported. In 2008, when Bush was running the show, 85,334 “criminal aliens” were tossed out of the country.

"Quoting Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates, Obama said the U.S. can’t remain competitive in the global economy by excluding talent.”

Bill Gates, incidentally, is the #1 supporter of H1-B Cheap Labor Visas. Corporate scum like Gates want more foreign labor, but they do NOT want to give them citizenship... this way they can abuse them and pay them less.

They were criminals the second they crossed into the U.S. with proper documents. Incidentally, Mexico has very tough immigration laws. Go immigrate to Mexico illegally and see what happens. I will be visitig you in a prison cell. In Mexico, they do not tolerate illegal immigration.

Obama is playing politics again (does he ever stop?). He knows this has zero chance in the House, but it plays well to the Hispanics, which translates to "Hope & Change" = "Same old Same old."

Google, Intel, and Yahoo! were founded by illegal aliens????

15   simchaland   2011 May 11, 7:34am

Um, yeah... Illegals don't vote. Get with the program...

16   FortWayne   2011 May 11, 7:37am

All their legal relatives and friends do. Jerry Brown kept on spamming commercials in our area for election about how Meg Whitman is against illegal immigrants.

These people will literally call you racist if you think illegals should not get amnesty. It's a targeted audience.

Good, we're making progress. Now we can actually agree on a fact. Illegal aliens can't vote. Legal US Citizens can vote and do vote.

A time honored tradition of campaigning is to advertize to a target audience of voters to appeal to them to vote for you because you agree to govern in a way that satisfies them. In my opinion, that's the only smart way to campaign.

Meg Whitman carpet bombed our television sets here with ads that claimed that Jerry Brown was an out of touch-hippie-loser who failed every time he was in office. The ads had terribly annoying music. At some point, the music would change to something "pleasant" and give us propaganda on how Meg Whitman was allegedly such an accomplished business woman "proving" that she should somehow magically know how to govern a State. Leading up to the election for months, I swear that every commercial break had at least one Meg Whitman commercial. Sometimes a commercial break would have two Meg Whitman commercials. Jerry Brown's commercials were scarce here.

The only consolation we had up here is that Queen Meg spent $144 million total of her own fortune and $178.5 million including donors only to get 4,127,391 votes losing to Jerry Brown by over 1.3 million votes. That means that she paid $43.25 per vote (including donations) and if you only count the money that she personally spent she spent $34.89 per vote of her own money only to lose in a very big way.

I'd say that this proves that she is a terrible business woman. She spent $144 million of her own money and $34,500,000 of her donors' money only to lose the election. That's $178.5 million wasted. In the immortal words of Nelson on the Simpsons, "Ha Ha!"

That's an oversimplification--Hispanic voters are not monolithic. Many Hispanics who got here with papers, waited in line, etc can actually resent the idea of amnesty.

In addition, you have this with any immigrant group--there are hierarchies based on which generation you are, where you were born, etc. Not all Hispanics support undocumented workers, just as not all Caucasians are against them.

And I think Jerry was pointing out that Meg was against it, but for it in her own house---which shows her hypocrisy number one, but also reveals to the Latino voter that she was willing to scapegoat them for the rightwing minuteman-type voter. It's the scapegoating that drove them into Brown and Reid's arms.
