Robert Lee is an Asian-American.

Bigly Bad for the AltLeft if True. Will make many more realize the MSM is AltLeft SJW nuts.

This is sad, the leftists have destroyed this country. We must elect more Republicans to save us!

has nothing to do with political parties...this is like "modern" families where the kids are running the household.

It's apparently Confirmed.
http://www.foxnews.com

It's not confirmed if you cite Fox News. You have to site a real news source.

NY Times: ESPN Pulls Announcer Robert Lee From Virginia Game Because of His Name
“We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name,” ESPN said in a statement. “In that moment it felt right to all parties. It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play-by-play for a football game has become an issue.”

OK, now confirmed. But Fox New still twisted the story into something far more perverse. From the Fox News article
In the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Va., ESPN decided to pull one of its announcers from calling a University of Virginia football game -- because his name is Robert Lee.

Lee, an Asian-American sportscaster who started with the network in 2016, was moved to a different game "simply because of the coincidence of his name," ESPN said, referencing the Confederate general Robert E. Lee.

It omits the explicit reason given by ESPN for removing the sportscaster and that it was doing so perforced. Instead, Fox News misrepresents ESPN as trying to make some silly political statement and callously disregarding the career of a minority employee. This is downright libel.

This is why you should never reference Fox News. It just outright deceives. It has absolutely no integrity.

Now I disagree with ESPN's decision, or even that they should have the right to do so, but I would not misrepresent this as malice.

Furthermore, the Republican Party platform is that a corporation should be able to fire or redirect any employee for any reason. So it is exactly Republican policies that enable ESPN to remove Lee from the broadcast with zero legal consequences. According to GOP principles, this is no one's business except the corporation's.

Dan it seems as if you're implying that as bad as the left is, the Republicans are almost always worse. So why are so many people constantly criticizing anything they can attach to "the left", while never, ever, bothering to check what the Republicans are doing in contrast, especially when the Republicans have complete control of all branches of the government?

Despite Democrats getting thrown out of so many elected positions in government, they still have alot of influence over our lives.

Democrats still have near complete control over our government bureaucracies and our culture (Academia, Media, Hollywood.............and now Sports).

So we deal with retarded Liberal Democrat issues all the time.

Dan it seems as if you're implying that as bad as the left is, the Republicans are almost always worse.

The most extreme leftists are every bit as bad as the most extreme rightist. However, such extremists make up a tiny minority of the Democratic voters, less than 1%. Whereas the corresponding extremists on the right make up at least a third if not the majority of the Republican voters. The DNC and MSNBC do not promote the loonies on the left. The RNC and Fox News not only promotes, but is almost entirely responsible for, the loonies on the right.

As such, the right is still significantly more dangerous than the left. That said, there is no reason to not call out the dangers of the left. It's not a zero-sum game.

No. This is neither unfortunate nor a coincidence. The station managers made the heinous and blatantly discriminatory decision not out poor luck but poor judgment. This is no coincidence, but reflects a larger trend of "appeasement at all costs" of the ignorant and violent AltLeft. (Told you guys AltLeft as a term was going into common usage!)

I agree with the rest of your post. Lee should sue.

Quigley says

The station managers made the heinous and blatantly discriminatory decision not out poor luck but poor judgment.

The unfortunate coincidence was his name and the location of the game. The decision to move him to another game was jointly made between Lee and the station managers. Have you heard him claim it was forced on him, or are you just making that up? If this happened to me, I'd be more annoyed that the alt-right was making such a big deal out of a fake controversy that I was trying to avoid in the first place by switching games.

The name Robert Lee just became controversial, and it wasn't CNNs fault and it wasn't Robert Lee's fault. This is not a plus for either party. It's a lose lose proposition, so it makes sense that they tried to avoid making it an issue during the UVA game in a mutually agreeable way. The alt-right as usual is trying to score political points regardless of the consequences. Go Pepe go.

That is an unfortunate coincidence. It's almost as sad as the Chevy Nova fiasco in Spanish speaking countries, but without the economic consequences. He got switched from one game to another. He should sue ESPN into Gawkerville.

YesYNot says

Not a coincidence. ESPN already admitted it was intentional because of his name. Nova was a ignorant bumble; this was deliberate

A coincidence is some Programming Manager moved him to another game because of a scheduling conflict, and it just happened to be Robert Lee. This was a deliberate move.

How is it in 2017 that Robert Lee became controversial other than Leftists trying to create new fights and further divide our country? Has new history come to light about his past?

Liberals had no problem with some memorials to the Confederacy when the South was a reliable vote for Democrats. Now that the South has become less racist and is now voting for Republicans, the political Left has gone bonkers.

It's a controversy because of Dylan Roof, the country's response to him, the neo-Nazi shit heads that descended on Charlottesvile, the woman they killed, and Trump's tone deaf response to it all among other things.
History doesn't change. Interpretations of it change as our society changes. That's not a left or right thing. That's been going on since people have been keeping track of history.

Huh? Weren't they agitating to take down the Lee statue before the whole Charlottesville shit went down?

Dylan Roof? Does anyone think the US is a more racist country today than it was 2, 10, 20, 50 years ago? Does anyone really think the KKK is more ascendant today than it was when the Democrats controlled the South during the Jim Crow era?

I've got loads of issues with Trump and didn't vote for him. But to pretend that a born and bred New York liberal like Trump is some sort of leader for neo-nazis or the KKK is just laughable.

38   FortWayne   2017 Aug 23, 1:43pm

"Left wing racism. Soon saying black in Spanish or name Robert will be banned while left wingers pull down more statues."

This whole story is ridiculous. The guy didn't want to be the story so he probably asked ESPN to take him off the game and the right wing nutjobs are turning it into a story anyway. The poor guy can't win. There are almost no sane people left.

socal2 says

Huh? Weren't they agitating to take down the Lee statue before the whole Charlottesville shit went down?

That's why I put in Dylan Roof. It took place in Charleston, SC, and the response by the State Government was to take the flag down at the Capital building. It seemed to me that it was part a repudiation of racist thinking and part an attempt at doing something conciliatory. I put in Charlottesville, because it accelerated the demand to take monuments down for the same reasons as Charleston.

socal2 says

But to pretend that a born and bred New York liberal like Trump

I don't know if Trump has always been a Liberal, a Democrat, or a Republican or what he truly believes now. We do know he has a history of racist comments, his dad (or someone with his dad's name and address) was arrested at a KKK rally in NY, and Trump chose to use race baiting and the evangelical conservative platform to build a base to win the election. You are right that he palled around with Democrats and was pro free sex and (probably abortion) when it suited him. But, he's clearly been shouting pro-life lines and race baiting lines over the last 2 years.
He's also been using his bully pulpit to attack the press as much as anything, and lack of trust in the media and popularization of conspiracy theories is a breeding ground for radicalization. He's not trying to work the Press to get more favorable coverage. He's encouraging a media war. He's fighting this war for personal benefit, not to create radicals, but he seems oblivious or uncaring about the possible consequences.
