People may start to question their driving habits and take another look at public transport, living closer to work, and telecommuting.

Good luck with that in TX
the real solution is to not scream "PRICE GOUGING" and allow them to charge $4 or $5 a gallon. If that happened, an army of trucks would ascend on the area in a day or two loaded with gasoline looking to sell for more profit and the shortage would end in a flash. After being through that mess in New Jersey during Hurricane Sandy, I would have begged to be able to pay $5 a gallon to fill up instead of sitting around for 6 hours hoping to fill up.
We're right on I-35 between Dallas and Austin and I have yet to see a station that is out or even short on gasoline.
The market is perfect. If people are willing to pay $148 per gallon, they'll have gasoline. They just hate FREE!dom.
Roughly 72 percent of San Antonio gas stations out of fuel as panic continues

I like AF's idea of $148.00 per gallon better. I would drive to Texas from California in a rented van full of 10 gallon containers of gas. I would finally be rich.

No, no, no! You're planning it wrong! Not rented van but USPS van they will give you when you get a job there. Free van, free gas, USPS salary - moar richer Strategist.
Glad I filled up before the weekend. If you can find any gas, the line is going to be long. Prices are increasing.
