Why couldn't Obama do this? Oh right, because Xi Jinping had absolutely no respect for Obama.
Bingo!
mell saysBingo!
I honestly can't think of ONE positive thing Obama or the Dims have done for the U.S in terms of trade in the world economy.
It's the same with the EUrocrats and their cucked nations. The nations are not supposed to negotiate with their best benefits in mind, but sell-out like a lefty to the global oligarchy. Trump was a game-changer, so were Orban, Duda and Kurz. Even Denmark now has the strictest immigration policies in place and will send away any rapefugees. Times are changing.

I can't wait to see all the Chinese buying all the Chevy's we can ship them.

I suspect that it's mostly Tesla's and BMW's that we will be sending to China.
I'd like to see us tariff Japanese cars the same way they tariff ours.

They’re mostly built here for domestic consumption! Tough to do tariffs on domestically produced vehicles.

They just started making a small amount of Lexus in the US. All Scions are imported. All, or almost all Mazda's are imported. Subaru is almost as bad.

If you guys missed this Chinese vice premier’s talk in Davo’s earlier this year, this link will provide that info.
What Xi said yesterday is the same thing. There is NO news. Trump jumps out and quoted what Xi said and make it sound like it has anything to do with trade wars. He does the same every time market goes up as well.
I am just sick of these guys playing the public like fiddles.

I would have thought so too, but GM is China's best selling car maker.
That video is from January before the tariffs.
It has nothing to do with today's situation.
Best selling car maker as in making cars in china. US car makers are doing very well in china. They just aren't imporiting cars into china and won't be even if tarrifs go away completely. But it makes nice sound bites for the base.
That was the point. He isn't saying anything new in response to tariffs or threat of additional tariffs no matter how much people want to believe trump has somehow backed him into a corner.
You're completely wrong. They will import more cars into South Korea too. Trump is opening up asian markets by leveraging their dependence on American import buying. No one is Asia wants to lose access to that market.
Want to lay out a case why they would import US models of cars in to asian markets when they are very profitably producing large numbers locally? It's true because I believe it shoudl be true doesn't count.
Yes he is. Xi's initial response to the FIRST round of tariffs was to respond in kind with soy tariffs. Then Trump up the ante and threatened an additional $100 billion in tariffs, now Xi is waving the olive branch and making IP protection concessions too.
Now that Xi is making concessions on IP protection, companies like GM won't have to partner with "Wuling Motors" and share technology with a domestic Chinese "preferred partner" to produce their cars, and can now protect their technology and produce their own cars within their own plants. More money comes back to America, but most importantly, R&D costs are not sunk, like they are now since GM can actually protect it. This is not just about cars, it's also about semiconductor technology, software, etc.
He didn't say a word about joint investments. He was very careful to avoid that. You ducked your orginal point. Where are the imports coming from?
You are only talking about manufacturing in china. Why would US car makers be importing into china when they have very profitible plants in china making cars suited to the china market even if the tariff were zero? Still waiting. Lots of ducking and shuffling.
You know what would be more profitable? Not having to do business with Wuling Motors under a ridiculous contract where they can steal U.S IP and profit simply because they're chinese.
I know which way Xi is going to go, you should figure it out too.
So GM will be closing the chinese factories and bringing in cars from Ft Wayne? Sorry, still waiting to hear why there will be US car imports to china.
He will weasel any and every way possible giving up the minimum, while generating maximum publicity. Dropping car tariffs will play well with trumps base and stroke trump's ega, but will make very little difference in car imports to china.
Nothing can be done. Let's just keep the Trade Deficit, which is inexorably tied to Budget Deficits (since offshored factories pay no tax, their non existent workers pay no tax, but the infrastructure and permanent costs still need to be paid with a smaller tax base).
Trump is fighting a battle for Americans, Globalist like Obama fought to make America weaker.

So not only is Trump reducing the trade deficit, but he's also strengthening the export economy at home.
