In other words: these rich, white left-wingers want their schools to remain rich and white.
Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.[1] For example, a person who is habitually intolerant may constantly accuse other people of being intolerant. It incorporates blame shifting.
According to some research, the projection of one's unconscious qualities onto others is a common process in everyday life.[2]
This is absolutely true re : upper west side.Yes, but who is bringing race into this? As long as you are wealthy enough to live in the Bee's neighborhood, no one is denying your kids the right to attend the area's schools. Unless folks are proposing that wealthy black, native Indian and Indians from south of the border's kids who live there are excluded.

The current Upper West Side focus is on P.S. 452, which, according to Slate, "has a lopsided enrollment, with a population that’s three-quarters white and Asian, with only 13% of kids qualifying for free lunch, in a district that’s 43% white and Asian and 48% low-income."

Yes, because it's so outrageous that someone wouldn't want his kid's school to move.
God forbid he want to keep the school from moving. That MUST mean he's a closet racist!!
And even more--he wants his kids to go to a high performing school too? What a hypocrite. If you want to end racism, you HAVE to send your kids to the worst performing school in the worst neighborhood in NYC.

form a cohesive community and working nuclear family units.
I don't know if you are being disingenuous or you really don't get it.
The rich telling people what they must do, while not willingly doing it themselves, is the height of hypocrisy.
If you think the right/libertarians support this, you are free to find a posting where one of us advocates on behalf, of say the Kochs.
See Patrick's post about ProjectionNot sure I understand your point. The school in question is white and Asian, likely due to economics and not race. No one is keeping black students with straight A's out of college, either. But folks who are too lazy or not smart enough to work hard or compete, can easily ask for the same benefits if they make a racial or ethnic issue around it. But how do Asians succeed in this racist, white privilege country?

But Upper West Side LiberalsAre wealthy people who are not white or Asian being prevented from living on the Upper West Side? Are wealthy conservatives who are not white or Asian being prevented from living there? Are conservatives of any race or ethnicity being prevented from living there? I don't see this as an issue of race or ethnicity but one of income, i.e., we let income and wealth do the talking, and let the cards fall where they may. Unless other races are being prevented from buying or renting there, even if they are upper income, which I don't think anyone is claiming, I fail to see how this has anything to do with race or ethnicity, but more to do with class.
Upper East Side residents and their children should enjoy the diversity. If it's good for everybody else, it's good for them. The story itself makes the point that kids will wind up going to a school closer to where they live.
The fact that there are more housing projects at the proposed new location than the current location, tells you it is about class, unless of course, you believe blacks prefer to live in housing projects at the proposed new location, instead of living in high priced brownstones near the current location. Imagine if it were the Bowery Boys living in the projects versus the sons and daughters of Wall Street at the current location of the school. You'd likely have heard the same objections.
If you choose to live in New York City, embrace the lovely diversity!
Both Samantha Bee and Jason Jones are wealthy and very white.
...
Slate reports that one of the reasons for this is that in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the most left-wing part of this left-wing state, there is never-ending resistance — if you'll pardon the use of that word — to opening up predominantly-white schools to under-privileged, minority students.
