What do you think about people who do this?
http://news.cnet.com/2300-13579_3-10013794-5.html

First things that comes to mind: Is this even legal? Do they work? Where do they go to the bathroom? Why not just order online?

Very interesting:

" It’s been commonly called the “Obama phone” but that’s an urban legend as free cell phones were added under the Bush Administration."

Yeah, definitely not a HOPE invention. Bush gave these away to people for lifeline usage, and to be able to get phone calls for job interviews.

Socialism!

Everyone deserves an iPhone and data plan Patrick. Everyone.

Yes Patrick, phones are social.

At a large sci-fi/fantasy convention I staff on the East Coast, standing in registration line for hours was reputed to be the best time to pick up new friends & playmates for the weekend. Now that our staff has refined the processes to make it FLY we actually have had a few people complaining they MISS standing in the line. Seriously!

Sometimes just hanging out with likeminded people, is what it's all about.

It's the Cult of Apple. ;-)

I passed by the Apple Store at the Irvine Spectrum today, and the police asked some people with sleeping bags and McDonalds food on the ground to leave immediately.

I guess they don't play that in OC.

There is a Simpson's episode about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mypods_and_Boomsticks

Mypods and Boomsticks
Plot
In the episode's subplot, Lisa gets her very own MyPod (a parody of iPod). During a trip to the mall, Lisa obtains a "MyPod" from Krusty at the Mapple Store. After Bart interrupts an important message from Mapple founder Steve Mobbs, insulting "Mapple's" user base. Lisa becomes obsessed with her new MyPod until she gets a US$1200 "MyBill". She goes to Mapple's undersea headquarters and begs Steve Mobbs to consider a reduced payment plan. Steve Mobbs offers Lisa a job at Mapple to help with her bill. Much to her chagrin, Lisa is given a job where she must stand on a street corner dressed as a MyPod, handing out Mapple pamphlets and telling people to "Think Differently."

Cultural references
The episode features numerous parodies of Apple Inc. and its products. Apple is portrayed as Mapple, with the MyPod, MyPhone, MyTunes, MyCube, Mapple Store and Braniac Bar referring respectively to the iPod, iPhone, iTunes, Power Mac G4 Cube, Apple Store and Genius Bar. The CEO of Mapple is Steve Mobbs, a parody of Apple Inc.'s then-CEO Steve Jobs. The scene where Comic Book Guy throws a sledge hammer at the screen is a reference to the famous "1984" Apple commercial.

IMO, it's one of the funniest Simpson's episodes ever, just for the Apple references, and they way it depicts Steve Mobs and Apple fans. Particularly amusing is the Apple fans reaction to Steve Mobs.

Why not just order online?

Because by that time, the ebay value of the iphone 5 may go from $900-$1,000 to retail price. Time is of the essence.

Depending on eBay results and how many phones you can buy at one time, standing in line may be worth the wait. Plus most probably show up early am anyway and some may be hired to stand in line. It's not a secret what is happening.

The 5 is not all that much different than the 4. Every single time Apple has come out with something unique that goes parabolic, in time they are knocked back down to size from a cost perspective of monopolizing on technology.

All this overpriced shite is in my view part of the brainwashing. What a bunch of idiotic suckers adults playing on this crap like children. It is a sad state of affairs that's my take.

This opens another door I will talk into how many of these walkers, these people bitching, ranting and raving about thier underwater mortgages or their buyer's remorse have iPhones, iPads, waste their lives daily on social media gossip and posting all their personal information to strangers all fucking day like brainless morons? I am sure its over 95% of them.

Hell, yes but the worst of it is to just go to any major store, and watch the trash look around for the clearly ghetto people in line always paying for food with S8 "credit" cards (after all the crew in office wouldn't want them to feel like sub-class citizens for being on WELFARE) and they ALL I swear ALL OF THEM have high-end internet capable devices or iPhones and gadgets.

Who is paying for welfare people to have all this shite? YOU AND I ARE thats who.

Emergency phone service under Bush was IMHO no way meant to be iPhones for Christ's sake or other pricey devices.

Reported on channel 4 news.
Overnight campers waiting for the latest IPhone circled the block at the APPLE store while almost five people stood in line waiting the IPhones release at the VERIZON store.
Does it make you ponder the catalyst in different religions ?
ANY moment now, we will PROVE life is abundant all over the cosmos.
Will they be APPLE or P.C. based life forms ?

If anyone is paying a social perspective to the generation X crowd, and younger the phones are literally their best friend, or link to anything outside their own mind. The simplicity of the iphones are a requirement for many people these days.

No wonder they are so blindsided and ignorant.

The iPhone 5 comes with a state of the art mapping system.

Too bad iPhone 5 users can't get Google Maps without a jailbreak.

The eBay flippers and line shills are blown out every time a new iPhone is released, yet we still forget this when it's time to go buy the next one.

Critical thinking and middle-class land ownership have been traded for ignorant-proof cell phones and My MPG.
