It has been and also has not been a melting pot - depends on what time period and place you look at. There is almost no area in the world which has not gone through massive influx of immigrants at some point in its history and hence be subjected to massive cultural change and biological changes. Western Europe also went through time period of massive waves of immigration which changed its culture and population permanently. India has been through such a phase as well, so has south-east asia, australia, south america, north america, western europe, middle east, and much of the rest of asia. Sometimes the old culture survives and assimilates the new, sometimes old is replaced with new, and sometimes there is intermixing of new and old. Japanese culture and practices for example is heavily derived from both Buddhist and Shinto practices where it is difficult to distinguish where one stops and other starts. Native American culture still survives in US with many whitest of white people claiming native american ancestry, etc.

At the same time there is still diversity across the world. People speak different languages across the world (yet many of these languages have a common root). People look different and have different cultural values, yet they can all reproduce with each other (A tribal man from an isolated tribe in the middle of African jungle can still reproduce with the most European looking woman in UK). There are also many small and isolated communities in the world that after thousands of years of isolation are more or less genetically homogenous, but Western Europe or Mid-Western US is definitely not one of these areas.

There are many sub-continentals living in UK and for atleast 100+ years. There are populations of Europeans living in India, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and South-east asia for centuries. They decided to stay back when the British left. There is a whole population of "Anglo-Indians" (people who trace at least one british ancestor) in India. South Afria as well as mixed population. In many cases British returned back to UK with their colonial wife's and children. In US also, there was mixing between whites and blacks during the time of slavery - it is virtually impossible to find a black person in US who does not have white blood.

Its a matter of what place you look at and at what time period as far as "melting pot" is concerned. In either case, irrespective of what your opinions and views are there is space for everything in the world. What is important (at least in my view) is to have an understanding of factual history.

Not at all. Places that are melting pots were singular, and most trade centers were foreign populations were inevitable... like Samarkand, Alexandria, Malacca. They were the exception rather than the rule. London was not half non-British (and certainly non half non-European) in 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, or even 1970.

Let's think about this for a moment. Do we have 7% of Pakistan composed of White Christian Europeans of British descent? Are there regular reports of 1000s of White Europeans gathering in Karachi Parks with signs:

"Behead those who do not impose and obey the British Common Law. Behead those who insult the Anglican Church! Legalize on demand British-style divorce laws now! Anglicanism is the only way. Burn those who insult Jesus!"

There were a handful of White Farmers who stayed behind in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia. I seem to remember a fierce Civil War, and then Mugabe oppressing White Farmers and forcibly redistributing their land. And then as the economy collapsed, demanding they return. Has the United Kingdom seized the property of British Africans in a targeted campaign against them, encouraging official and unofficial violence against them, then demanded they return during the Great Recession? Yes, sometimes Southern Chinese conquered all of China. Sometimes the Germans conquered the Celts or Romano-British. All of these groups were neighbors that had been trading for millennia. But never did Indonesians conquer Ireland.

For the most part, the more quantifiably advanced (inc. Organization) civilization conquers the lesser. The problem with Modern Mass Immigration is that the dumbest, poorest are coming in huge numbers, and the Left is encouraging accommodation with their backward ways.

The typical Algerian or Pakistani of 1960 immigrating to France or the UK was generally a product of the French/British school system, spoke the language fluently before arrival, and intended to work in their profession for a living, and was a secularist. And they came in small numbers, easily to assimilate and willing to be assimilated. The typical Rapefugee of 2017 is neither educated from birth in a Western System, frequently speaks no Western Language, views their own culture as superior just with a run of bad luck and/or oppression from evil forces, and welfare as Jizya or an entitlement they collect while often running an underground economy 'business' that pays no tax, sending much of the money home outside the local economy.

Furthermore, the official policy is explicitly one of non assimilation for the foreigner, while demanding the native bend over backward to accommodate. In truth, a Pakistani Army would be utterly crushed 1000s of miles before it reached the United Kingdom, so this is really a matter of insane domestic policy than any advanced foreign civilian taking over by a mixture of wealth, soft power, and outright force.

Basically, colonization by entitlement program. The Swedish Government that insisted immigrants were needed to shore up pensions, just admitted entitlements for immigrants will actually necessitate an increase in retirement ages and a reduction in benefits.

No Italian arriving in NYC insisted native born New Yorkers, be they Knickerbocker Dutch, WASPs, or Irish adopt Italian and Napoleonic law. However, modern immigrants "from a few select places" actively separate themselves.

How is European settlement of North and South America neighbors? Alexanders multi-national army marching and reproducing all the way from Greece to current day Afghanistan/Pakistan? The fact that much of south-east Asia is a population with both Indian and Chinese characteristics. Aryan invasion of India?

Subjective notions of "us vs them" and "neighbor vs alien" also change as a result of such invasions. You may think of Saxon and Viking invasion of British Isle as neighbors, but I am quite sure the people living in British isles at the time regarded these as Alien and Barbaric invasions. Such invasions have been going on since humans first stepped out of Africa 60,000 years ago and there are objective facts such as genetic markers, language families, and the fact that you can make babies with any human female on this planet to proove that.

I am not saying that people shouldn't feel close to those who are like them, certainly you have full right to do so and feel closer to those who share your race (however you may define that), nationality, or cultural values, but that doesn't deny the facts that populations do intermix at times.

Well some of the Chinese and Indians claim that they dominated the world for 5000 years, the last 500 years have been an aberration, and that the world will soon shift back to its "normal" state where China / India will dominate the world again. South Americans like to think that Inca's were the most advanced, and the Ejyptians and Iranians have their own history has well. So certainly everyone has a right to have their own subjective opinions. But really, most people are busy just struggling with their day to day life rather than thinking about world domination issues :-)
