Irish workers are now officially the most productive in the world, adding an average of $99.50 (€87) to the value of the economy every hour they work, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The Paris-based agency published figures on Tuesday showing the Republic had the highest rate of labour productivity, effectively economic output per hour of work, of any advanced economy in 2017.

At the top of the OECD list was Ireland at $99.50, followed by Luxembourg ($98.50) and Norway ($83.10). The Republic’s rate was also significantly higher than its biggest trading partners, the United States ($72) and the UK ($61.10), and nearly twice the OECD average of $54.80.

Labour productivity typically measures the value of work done in a given economy over time, with higher value-added jobs generating the greatest productivity increases.

The Republic’s position at the top of the global rankings has a lot to do with the high concentration of multinationals here, which typically drive the biggest productivity gains.

A recent Central Statistics Office report suggested labour productivity here grew by 4.5 per cent on average between 2000 and 2016 with a significant increase recorded in 2015, the same year that saw a massive influx of multinational assets and an unprecedented 26 per cent jump in gross domestic product (GDP), later derided as “leprechaun economics”.

The report also highlighted a gulf between indigenous and foreign-owned firms. Productivity growth among foreign-owned entities averaged 10.9 over the period but was only 2.5 per cent for indigenous firms.

A stick dangling a bottle of whiskey goes a long way in Ireland.

In other words, work not done by Irish people, and money not going to them.

Yep, that "labour productivity" metric is a fucking meaningless joke.

Labor productivity is mostly a function of tools, especially when productivity is measured in output per person. Think 20 guys with shovels digging a ditch, verse one pud plowing along with a Ditch Witch.

There is zero chance that the Irish are the most productive workers(and I’m half Irish).

Ditch Witches are for chumps.
1 poor sod with a hedge fund does as much work as 1000 like this without breaking a sweat.

Example: Amazon books tens of billions in UK Sales through a Dutch-Irish Tax Front; the accounting is done in Dublin.

Makes the Irish look very productive, but in reality a typical Irish IT is making bupkiss and couldn't dream of owning a middle class home anywhere near Dublin without a second income earner making good money. The marriage rate in Ireland is collapsing, a fraction of a point higher than Sweet Den or Italy which are far less traditional.

That making bupkiss is a good deal for business and looks great in terms of "Productivity".

This is why the Republic is desperate to stop Brexit, because a Brexited UK will instantly put a clamper on the EU-allowed Tax Dodge and allows thousands of British Jobs to be done in Ireland simultaneously.

Additionally, the Irish lobby gets thousands of special visas just for Irish STEM workers in the USA. This is above and beyond H1Bs and other Visas, special just for Ireland. Notice Germany and Holland and their other EU pals aren't stepping up. Ireland has the same problem that many 2nd Level nations have: Too many educated workers, not enough jobs.

Ironically, what would save Ireland from the depths of Neoliberal-SJWism is absorbing Ulster, and Sinn Fein would write their own death warrant if their dream came true. BOTH Catholics and Protestants in Northern Eire are far, far more conservative than the rest of Ireland, it would guarantee conservative victories for a generation or more. SOCIAL conservative victories.

A real measure of efficient national worker productivity would calculate the per capita GDP divided by number of employees divided by education level of employees.
