then they're illegally owned and thus, throw 'em in jail, just for that. Is that something that the police along with the DA offices can't pull off?

Do that, again and again, and very soon, you'll see the gun laws work for law abiding citizens.

The problem is enforcement of existing laws.

And then, the law abiding citizens can pull off their best Clint Eastwood against a mass shooter, w/o a pre-existing criminal record, in real-time.

New York city tried that with "stop and frisk." Since this "disproportionately affected people of color, they had to stop.

In other words, the police & DA offices stopped enforcing a simple law, where the illegal ownership of a firearm was against the law.

I guess the idea that there are criminals out there, is something out of the question.

The problem with "reasonable" background checks is that half of Americans are depressed, a good fraction suicidal, and the rest drink psycho-active drugs in their tap water anyway.

The point is that if American society wants more 'gun control' then perhaps, it's first best to support the existing gun laws on the books, which doesn't allow known criminals to own them.

This is exactly the problem Rin. Weak ineffective state laws regarding illegal gun possession.

For instance in California, a Ex Con is not supposed to posses a firearm. However the sentencing is this:

Low term - 16 months
Mid term - 24 months
High term -I forget...like 48 months.

So scumbag gang member gets arrested and sits in county lockup for 6 months awaiting trial. At this point his attorney negotiated a plea for the low term. Scumbag agrees and gets 9 months credit for good time served. He either goes back to county for three more months or to state prison, where he gets to reconnect with his homies, for a few months.

It’s crap and not a deterrent whatsoever. Federal sentencing for same crime is mandatory 10 years and you serve the whole thing.

These guys are dangerous. And California politicians are serious shitheads. Fuck em. Lock me up, throw away the key.

Kills me...the objection is that it disproportionately affects blacks. Again fuck em. Dangerous assholes need to be locked up until they are no longer dangerous murdering assholes or until their dead. If black men can’t get their shit together and insist on menacing society, they can rot in prison.

wow.

Should be 2 years, followed by a hanging.

Also, dealing hard drugs = 10 years minimum
Second time = Death Penalty, applied in 10 days from judgement.

Less prisons, more gallows.

Hard drugs are literally deadly poison. You're basically selling deadly poison = murder

Malaysia and Singapore are drug free.

If we started hanging people for the second offence selling coke, heroin, oxy, meth, fentanol... We'd cut both gang murder and drug deaths by 50% in 5 years.

Looks like I over estimated the high term which is only 3 years.

I think you're being facetious.

Drugs vs illegal gun crimes is not even close to the same thing. Cons in possession of guns is a potentially harmful item in the hands of someone who has already proven themselves incapable of adhering to laws. Their ability to directly physically harm another person is pretty strong. And as project exhile demonstrated, harsh laws against ex cons in possession work pretty spectacularly.

Drugs OTOH....seemingly criminalization does relatively little to solve the matter. So it appears that decriminalizing drugs will at least remove the serious criminal enterprises. I think its worth a shot.
