This is un-freaking-believable!! I'm sitting here Patrickteering in my home office and my phone rings. It is the listing agent for the house across the street from me that just hit the market this week (actually this neighbor tried selling his house 1.5 years ago and couldn't find a buyer then - so technically it hit the market "again"). The Realtard(R) introduces himself and gives me the specs on the house and asked if we knew anyone that would be interested in moving into our neighborhood and specifically that house.

W T F ?????????????????

I told him that I can look out my front window and see that the house is for sale and didn't appreciate him calling me like this. I then said, "Before I get even more rude with you, I should tell you that the house you are listing is overpriced by $75K." He replied with, "REALLY?" I said, "Yea - look at all of the inventory stacking up in the neighborhood and their average price per square foot ($150), then compare that to yours ($175)." I then added that for the sake of the houseowner (my neighbor), I really hope he is able to find a buyer, but calling neighbors to let them know the house next to them is for sale is a ridiculous way to try selling a house. My final shot was, "I have a bone to pick with Realtors, so I'm going to hang up before I tell you how I really feel about your profession."

Silence.

Oh my, that Realwhoreâ„¢ sure is desperate if it is calling people in the neighborhood to "sell" this house. And I think you handled that conversation like a pro. I've met too many Realwhoresâ„¢ who believe that I'm going to buy the b***sh*t that they claim as "expert advice." I've sat and listened to friends get snowed by Realwhoresâ„¢ who are "friends" of friends who claim that they are only giving their "friends" the best advice available and that they are there to "help."

When will people give up on the fantasy that house debtorship doesn't equal security? There is no security in a mortgage. Note, the first four letters of mortgage say it all in French "la mort." (For those of you who don't know French "mort" means "death" in English.) I think it's a good way to look at a mortgage. You die to your ability to weather increasingly unpredictable economic times when you take a mortgage. You are tied to that debt one way or another. Even those that "walk away" do so taking a hit. Also you become the debt slave of a bank who can sell you and your debt to any entity it wants (at least in the good ol' boom days).

I'm so sick of friends parroting bad advice claiming that "owning a home" is THE KEY to familial and financial stability. Ugh, why do normally rational adults believe in this Fairy Tale?

Maybe I could try to sell a shack up at Santa's North Pole to the next Realwhoreâ„¢ who spins its web of fantasy to ensare a friend in its nefarious web to feast on a friend's financial juices while claiming that it's only "trying to be a friend."

OWIE! That hurt! But thank you, I'll use it & quote you if it's okay.

I posted this on the old forum - this very thing happened to me, along with realtors stopping by asking if I was selling, contacting me and telling me that they had a buyer for my home and would be showing him homes in the area the next weekend and to contact him. I emailed him and asked why, if the buyer wanted MY home, would he need to show the guy any others? I ended up writing a letter that I sent to many realtors saying a list of no's - no, i don't want to buy, don't want to sell, don't care if you listed/sold/bought a home in my area, don't care if you specialize in my area, etc.

Realtors actually think that you care if they're selling the neighbor's home? what a load of crap.
