http://www.salon.com/2014/05/10/the_bible_backs_same_sex_couples_point_by_point_why_the_haters_are_wrong/

From a theological perspective, marriage primarily involves a covenant-keeping relationship of mutual self-giving that reflects God’s love for us. The evidence we’ve considered here indicates that marriage is only secondarily—and not necessarily at all—about having biological children. Same-sex couples’ inability to procreate does not exclude them from fulfilling the Bible’s basis for marriage.

Some of the assless chap-wearing wide stance members of Patnet that doth protest too much probably will disagree, of course.

You wont believe this, but one of my tenants are lesbians. They make a lot of money, and pay rent on time. I had the hots for one of them, she is so sexy I saw her in my dreams. Just my luck, she had the hots for my wife.
What a waste.

Romans 1:25-27

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-- who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

@thomaswong.1986, maybe you should engage "The Professor" in a debate about God's role in the destruction of 9/11. The Professor asked where did all the people go, perhaps you can argue they were all "raptured up."

So why would we allow post-menopausal women to get married then? What about men over 39, who increasingly have defective sperm as time goes on? What about intersex people?

Most of the gays are economically better off than the average straight person. This probably doesn't help the jealousy of the assless chap types.

"Kevane (2004) estimates that approximately 5–10 percent of the women in Africa are involved in woman-to-woman marriages. Traditionally, woman marriage has served as an avenue through which women exercise social influence and patronage in societies where inheritance and succession pass through the male line. In such societies, woman marriage makes it possible for women to gain social status as the head of the household."

Such marriages have not traditionally been considered lesbian marriage, because the relationship is not necessarily sexual, but they are definitely female-female marriages. South Africa is currently the only African country where male couples can get married.

As for Paul, by his own account he was a persecutor of the early Christians, and even after his "conversion" he continued to disagree with most of them. He wrote that women must not speak out above men (sorry, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin, but Paul didn't want you running for President or even Governor), or cut their hair short, etc. If you quote Paul as an authority without following all of what he wrote, then you're a hypocrite. If you quote Paul and follow all of what he wrote, then you're rejecting the original disciples with whom he disagreed. The Roman Empire permitted freedom of religion until Constantine decided to impose Christianity, and the early Christians disagreed about many things; then Constantine locked their leaders in a room and refused to let them out until they conformed to one uniform doctrine; they agreed, and the early church rose and fell in that moment, as it rose to power but fell in every other way.

Bible prohibits sodomy and warns against it.
Bible also prohibits murder, gluttony and greed.

It's an old document made to guide folks through life, to help them. Most people ignore quite a few things on that list these days.

many things, mostly other religions, also wealth disparity including especially debt, but the first story on Forthood's list reflects his fapping obsession. The actual story was about inhospitality, the rape of guests, and had nothing to do with marriage, but Forthood and Bop69 have only one thing on their stunted minds; the two of them should really get a room.

Yes, and whenever I meet a woman in any aspect of life, business, social, court appearance, hospital, etc., I make sure she is not currently menstruating. And if she is, I make sure she touches no one until she brings two doves or two young pigeons to be sacrificed for her uncleanliness as god intended. Personally, I prefer doves, but pigeons are much more common in most places.

25“ ‘When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period. 26Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be unclean, as during her period. 27Anyone who touches them will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.

28“ ‘When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean. 29On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 30The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the Lord for the uncleanness of her discharge.

Completely irrelevant to my point -- I said "post-menopausal women" -- by definition, this extremely small percentage of the population you're talking about would not be post-menopausal if it's a natural birth or they are not procreating themselves because they are using IVF and many are using donor eggs typically. In any case, pregnancy over 50 is *exactly* as common as I think it is, according to that shitty Wikipedia article.

Infertile people should also not be able to get married according to this flawed thinking, of course.

A lot of laws we have are laws to prevent the evils of the bible.....killing a disobedient son, stoning an adulteress to death, persecuting gays, burning witches at the stake, slavery. These can only be described as evil. We need common sense secular laws to prevent this evil.

There is no "common sense". Bible and the teachings of Christ gives a life meaning and creates common sense for a common man to follow in this world. It teaches a man to live a good life, a better life. A greater goal to strive for.

When we go to church they don't talk about stoning anyone or persecuting someone. Don't base your perception of the church on something you see in the movies, it's not like that.

flat world held by Christian Europe ? Think again....more like non-Christans believed in Flat world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth

The Flat Earth model is an archaic belief that the Earth's shape is a plane or disk. Many ancient cultures have had conceptions of a flat Earth, including Greece until the classical period, the Bronze Age and Iron Age civilizations of the Near East until the Hellenistic period, India until the Gupta period (early centuries AD) and China until the 17th century. It was also typically held in the aboriginal cultures of the Americas, and a flat Earth domed by the firmament in the shape of an inverted bowl is common in pre-scientific societies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myth_of_the_Flat_Earth

The myth of the Flat Earth is the modern misconception that the prevailing cosmological view during the Middle Ages saw the Earth as flat, instead of spherical.

During the early Middle Ages, virtually all scholars maintained the spherical viewpoint first expressed by the Ancient Greeks. From at least the 14th century, belief in a flat Earth among the educated was almost nonexistent, despite fanciful depictions in art, such as the exterior of Hieronymus Bosch's famous triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights, in which a disc-shaped Earth is shown floating inside a transparent sphere

Atheists and agnostics are such liars...

History[edit]
In Inventing the Flat Earth: Columbus and Modern Historians, Jeffrey Russell describes the Flat Earth theory as a fable used to impugn pre-modern civilization and creationism.[7][8]

James Hannam wrote:

The myth that people in the Middle Ages thought the earth is flat appears to date from the 17th century as part of the campaign by Protestants against Catholic teaching. But it gained currency in the 19th century, thanks to inaccurate histories such as John William Draper's History of the Conflict Between Religion and Science (1874) and Andrew Dickson White's A History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom (1896).

Atheists and agnostics championed the conflict thesis for their own purposes, but historical research gradually demonstrated that Draper and White had propagated more fantasy than fact in their efforts to prove that science and religion are locked in eternal conflict.
