Division I is subdivided according to a school's level of football classification or sponsorship. Previously known as NCAA Division I-A, the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) is the classification for Division I athletic programs with the highest-profile football competition in college athletics.
Dormitory amenities and classroom equipment were a huge part of spending growth, last I checked, as were more layers of administration and the office buildings to house them.
The growth in non-teaching administrative employees at both public and private universities since 1970 has been profound. Some of it is justified, but the bureaucracy has taken on a cancerous, exponential life of its own.
The big athletic programs probably make money, since they generate contributions from wealthy and not-too-bright alumni. Who knows why anyone would open their checkbook to fund better football training equipment at Fuckhole State U., but wealthy people do such things.
Long article, but lots of info on the war of athletics.

Hey, Tallahassee isn't only a fuckhole - not that there's anything wrong with being a fuckhole.
Does anyone have the, ya know, details and facts about where Universities spend their dough? It would be cool to see YOY expenditures.
I am under the impression that they have expensive Presidents/Regents and whatnot, and cater to the wealthy with luxury amenities and money-losing athletic programs.
