I agree it's a lot and obviously more than Obama. But not sure what was expected by anyone at least as far as it being less than Obama. And I don't know about how the secret service is funded and what Trump could have done, but I thought the budget was set by the prior administration? If there was something Trump could have done, then obviously that's stupid, but I didn't think it worked that way.
Ultimately you can't really blame him though. At least for the amounts being spent. Was he supposed to sell off all his properties? Secret service is legally required to protect certain assets and people by law I thought. He has 4 grown children who also need to have SS coverage, legally. Are they just supposed to stay home and not work? Obama had two school age daughters staying in the white house and that was it for the most part. It was obviously cheaper to protect Obama and maybe that's what the budget was based off of.
I do believe there are legit reasons to find faults with Trump. I just don't believe this is one of them. And I get it, right wingers bash Obama for his travel. My perspective though is it doesn't matter for either of them. SS is required. You can argue one or the other travels too much, but it's a moot point. Unless there is a certain legal requirement for X vacation days as president, it can be used and abused.
"But Trump wasting money and time on vacations is of course very different because Trump...muh"
I think you missed the point of this thread. It was pointing out the hypocrisy of all the Trump supporters (and Trump himself) whining about the money Obama spent on his vacations and golf and suddenly becoming very silent once Trump became President.
It's no different at all. Unless you are a Trumpkin, that is.

I did not miss the point, but you did miss my sarcasm. The point of Bible quotes was that Trump says one thing and does another, and still gets vote of Bible-thumpers, and they excuse his waste of resources because somehow it is different from Obama wasting money.

OK--apologies. I tend to skim when verses of the Bible are involved.

No problem whatsoever.
Bible has many interesting and useful passages. It is most enjoyable to quote these passages when supposedly religious people act against advice of their Holy Book.

I've said before that people don't usually give credence to the daily beast, infowars, etc.
Outside of CIC I think you had very few patnet posters ranting on about Obama being on vacation.
They were persuaded it was the norm and shamed into silence.

For our Christ-centered people:
therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things, and do not do them.
Matthew 23:3
you, then, who teach others, do you do not teach yourself?
Romans 2:21
They tie up heavy, burdensome loads and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
Matthew 23:4
