Football was already in big trouble. Now they get some free publicity, so much so that the CTE news in the news is getting passed by without a peep.

This whole thing is more likely to help the NFL than hurt it.

But I'd be interested in how they gather the data for comparing weekly viewership.

I played football for 4yrs, love watching the sport, enjoy an occasional pro/collegiate tailgate...

However, I don't want to see politics in football. I engage in football to get away from everything else.

I enjoyed ESPN years ago before it became a political outlet. I want to watch scores and highlights, and nothing else!

If the NFL dies a capitalistic death due to the consequences of taking a political stance, I have no problem with that. I also have no problem with peaceful protest but acknowledge there are sometimes consequences, especially when the protests are done during work hours.

I've already been reading about this week's lost endorsement deals.

Yes, due to the controversy, you will undoubtedly see a spike for a week or two or three. That's the case with any controversy that makes media top stories.

But I can't see new viewers coming on board anywhere near the rate I see lost viewership over the longer term.

Lets be realistic, players trade between cities anyway. Not rooting for home town anyway, they are all paid a lot... so in essence it's just a bunch of millionnaires from out of town playing football. Even uniforms are probably made in China. There is nothing American about the damn game anymore.

Screw that, I have better things to do with my time.

The end of NFL FOOTBALL? Who gives a crap? I don't watch it on TV anymore and would never consider paying money to watch it. It's amazing how the MSM can convince people that something that is a complete waste of time (watching football on TV or just watching TV in general ) is important.

So sorry, but you didn't quite understand my post...Down here south of the border, Mexican beer is cheaper and better than BUD, Tacos are better and cheaper than McDonalds, I drive an old 1980's beater, I don't need to wear expensive Nike stuff. I think Microsoft sold 1 copy of windows here and there are 10 mil pirated copies and watching TV sports is boring. If that is being "a superior and condescending prick" then I am guilty.

This is the most unfathomable part. Everyone I knew that didn't want to cut the cord or never had any plans to. Based their decision on not being able to have a close live connection with NFL and other Sports. But mostly Football. My Brother, almost everything he owns has a Miami Dolphin logo on it. He threw it all out, and canceled cable.

Look for consumer goods to get cheaper now. Now that the NFL isn't a Trillion dollar a year advertising outlet. Sucking money out of honest hard working people.
