The concern I have is if we do that, what are the repercussions? They have 1.41 billion or so people, I'm sure they wouldn't mind loosing 400-600 million to a war if it took them that many to win control of mainland USA. Not sure if there are that many that would be capable of participating in a war, but how many does the US have right now? 50 million out of 325 million, MAYBE??? Sheer numbers not looking good?

Very true. Currently their technology is catching up, if not coming close to matching ours in standoff warfare. I am sure we would have economic warfare/currency battles that would occur (more so than is already going on) that would most likely conclude in satisfying the Chinese' interest in that debt before a shot is actually fired. The level of risk to reward in armed conflict over $1.18 trillion just isn't there when you consider the sheer magnitude of currency in debted outstanding and in circulation in the world today.
