The Potato Famine has more to do with workers abandoning their jobs and Ireland generally due to their inability to live on their wages.

Ireland is famous for Cheese products most of all. Without workers to milk those cows and make the cheese, load the huge wedges onto ships, the economy collapsed.

Ireland was not the only country to suffer from the Potato rot, Poland and Germany did as well, but to a lesser extent.

The Potato Famine was more "The Great Irish Depression".

Comparing it to the Holocaust is silly. The British did not round up Irish Families in concentration camps, forcing them to make grape shot, and didn't wander around Ireland digging mass graves and using muskets to shoot whole villages in the head.

What SHOULD be taught is the German extermination of Poles and Russians, which while given less attention to the Jews who were priority #1, were next on the list after driving the Russians over the Urals. "Ostplan", a compendium of solutions for the Untermenschen Slavs, involved exterminating half of them, then working the other half to death. Particularly good specimens considered to have Nordic Blood might be allowed to reproduce to great "House Negroes" of the better sort of Slav. Lithuanians were to be mostly spared, but Lats and Estonians and most Ukrainians would be considered "Mongolian" and slated for workcamps and extermination depending on age and fitness.

The treatment of Russian POWs and Ukrainian, Belorussian, and some Polish villages, where the German solidery - not just the SS - was involved has never been fully communicated. The Germans burned 1000 Russian POWs to death in a large State Farm because they didn't want to schlep them to German/Polish mines and farms. Where the Nazis used Lithuanians and Ukrainians to do their dirty work, sparing more Germans for the Front.


The Wehrmacht was deeply involved in the whole process.

The Bloodbath in the East overfocuses on Jews, leaving out the greater Liebensraum context. You can't colonize the East to the Volga effectively when 90% of the non-Jewish population of Untermenschen are in the way.

The fundamental cause of the famine was an occupying foreign power which took all the best land by force and ran farming that land as businesses for profit.

That, combined with the potato blight, set up the population to die.

Ireland, even at peak population, was never as densely populated as Britain. Still isn't. So it wasn't just "too many people."

Indeed that's largely the reason we aren't allowed to have our own ethnic pride or civic institutions anymore or private ethnic organizations and club, because it would exclude them and they don't like it... Also their separate ethnostate where they do get be discriminatory and highly ethnocentric is our number 1 ally and we've fought 90% of every war of the last 35 years to advance their interests...

That all seems pretty much accurate. The US civic religion is the Holocaust. Why do we have so many Holocaust museums here when it all happened over there? And why nothing for the much larger number of people killed by communists in Eastern Europe, China, and Cambodia?

Someone once pointed out that Nazis are frequently the bad guys in movies, but communists very rarely.
