Yes of course, and I know some people who feel that way. But what I was saying is that far too many are really okay with him. He gave away software to kill Netscape, Lotus 123, Wordstar, and on and on, until he owned all of it. He was also able to use control over the operating system to prevent those programs from working as well as his own clones.

Bill Gates set all of technology back by at least one decade, maybe two, by killing off innovative competitors in that same manner. In the end, no VC would fund anything that competed with Windows.

There are two ways to achieve wealth:

1. create something useful better or cheaper than competitors in a free market
2. prevent the free market from working and simply extract "economic rent" at the expense of the whole economy
